We totally loved this hotel. Staff were so lovely. So helpful. So kind. Food was good. A really amazing place to break on M6.

User

Lovely setting by the river. Top stakes , absolutely brilliant service from very professional, kind , courteous an help full staff. Both me and my wife and our dogs enjoyed our stay. Will defiantly stay again. Thank you

I stayed at the Tickled Trout for a number of days earlier this month along with my wedding party and the whole experience was excellent.

The staff were courteous and helpful, rooms were clean and well appointed and food and drinks were great.

We had a small reception here after the wedding, the staff cordoned off an area for us in the bar and brought around some canapés - good service and tasty food!

All in all we were very comfortable and well looked after, myself and my guests thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

User

First impression it all looks nice nice room overlooking the river nice welcome from lady on reception our room was ready so we got to check in early which was good as we had just come from Macdonald kilhey court first time here so hope it’s as nice and welcoming as Hallie and the staff there

We were pleased to get a late booking on a hotel website. Room was just great. We managed to get in for dinner .. even though we arrived at 9.10pm. Dinner was.... ok!. Starter of bread & olives was lovely.. but early out of the ' stables' came our main courses. Fish & chips were fine .Vegetable Tagine was very bland & lacked flavour. Wine was nice - but over - priced per glass.

In our dining experience we felt rushed. Felt that the kitchen team were pushing us along to eat up... that spoilt things a bit. Room & overall experience though - good! . We would return!.

We use this hotel as a stopover on our long journey to the North of Scotland. We find the location convenient, they allow our dog, the bed was very comfortable, room clean and good value. Only slight grump was that the room was very hot and window opening restricted for safety reasons.

The rooms are a bit brown but can’t complain for the money.

User

The hotel itself could do with a bit of updating as the bedroom decor was very tired & there was a distinct smell of damp (from the river?) in the lower ground floor area near the lift. The breakfast was disappointing as the sausages were undercooked & there was no black pudding! In Lancashire!! I have stayed at the Macdonald in Manchester City Centre and their breakfast was superb! However, the staff were lovely, friendly & attentive and the bed was comfortable so I’d definitely go back if I happened to be in the area.

User

Just an overnight stay on business. Excellent welcome at reception. Good, spacious and comfortable clean room. Decided to have dinner and chose steak. I felt this was grossly over priced for what it was. I expected something better for £25. Likewise at £5.

60 a beer it is an expensive bar considering that it is not central London. Apart from that it was good. But if I stay again I will neither eat nor drink there.

User

Great value for money, excellent hot breakfast cooked to order. The room was a bit cold but ok other than that. The staff were all very friendly and provided great service.

User

Handy for the motorway and Preston town centre. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Food and drink are s bit overpriced and the service was a bit slow despite there being hardly anyone in the bar or restaurant area.

Rooms are ok a bit tired in places. Could do with a refurb. Certainly not 4 star that's for sure .

Coffee at breakfast is more like hot water with a hint of coffee flavouring. The breakfast was good and plenty of choice.

Room prices are fair .

User

Check in fine staff polite room large some basic toiletries missing ie soap to wash hands. Had a meal which was OK but very overpriced .Meal served before we were given cutlery i requested a salad to replace portion of chips i was given half tomato three slices of cucumber I lettuce leaf and three rings of red onion Spoke to waiter and he said he would get some more which arrived after I had finished my burger. We didn't sample breakfast so can't comment. Hotel has a lovely setting with beautiful views over river but there is obviously some training issues which need addressed.

User

Ate at the Steak House 10th Jan. Steak was served cold, trimmings were hot but let down by the cold steak. Complained to staff about it but it just seemed to go over their heads. Not good for the expensive price they charge.

User

A lovely setting and we were made to feel very welcome in our family group of around 30. The meal was a little erratic with food being presented with one description, everyone shaking their heads and then the correct description being given - on a few occasions! I wouldn't expect 30 meals to arrive simultaneously on a Sunday afternoon but there was a considerable degree of staggering in their time of appearance - and we had sent them our menu choices two weeks earlier and all arrived on time. Sauces and gravy were conspicuous by their absence leaving some meals a little on the dry side, and while I appreciate that a well-done steak will never be as moist as a medium one the two eaten by my children were particularly dry. Drink prices were eye-wateringly high - I got my wife a vodka, lime and soda while I had a bottle of Old Mout cider and had to get out another note as my tenner wasn't anything like sufficient. All of these negative points didn't spoil a lovely family reunion but there was the opportunity for the event to have been something exceptional and I'm far from convinced that the hotel met the standards it would hope to.

User

Old hotel that once was very good. The rooms are spacious but tired. The food is over priced. (Savoy Grill prices with Hungry Horse delivery). Breakfast is continental, unless you pay a massive surcharge. Every thing that is wrong about British hotels. The only saving grace is the friendly staff.

Conclusion, don’t waste your time and money.

User

Nice place but as a smoker every time we went for a cigarette we got locked out. The patio door was locked so we had to use the fire doors that kept locking us out. Bit embarrassing knocking on and asking customers to let us in. That was my only gripe

User

Hotel is very dated and tired, our room was full of dust, broken bath, bath didn’t drain for hours. No spoons or tea and Coffee when we arrived not worth £100.

Ordered room service, £60 for two meals... couldn’t finish the food, chips were dry like they had been microwaved from frozen.. my £22 steak wasn’t cooked how I asked Very standard basic food! Have had better in a Wetherspoons. Complained about our food and was told they would sort something out for us, not a word or penny back after. Very very disappointed with our stay. Could have had a better more enjoyable experience in a premier inn. We won’t be back.

User

Disappointed on arrival and only stayed due to difficulty finding 2 rooms elsewhere at short notice! The 4* claim and the website photos are not what you can expect with this hotel.

Check in was not ready at 3pm, and rooms when ready were poor. Ours was dusty, one matress had a topper on it and looked lumpy, bathroom had 1 towel and no robe as portrayed in the website photos. Never been so disappointed with a hotel!

I should be sleeping now as it's 2:25am, but im writing a review about this poor quality hotel. A 3* Premier Inn is so much better and will be our choice for our next visit to Prestton!

By the way, the staff are nice, it's just the hotel that's not worth the 4* price!

What an expensive place awful beer selection won't be going back

We arrived at the tickle trout on Wed 1st Nov at 11pm after a 4.5 hour drive There were 6 other people from another group checking in at the same time before us. Before the receptionist starting checking the other people in she yells mine and my colleagues name at which point we respond 'yes thats us". The receptionist gets on to the phone probably to her manager and says 'those 2 are here what do you want me to do?' She puts phone down and continues very slowly checking each one of the group of 6 in very slowly. Eventually it's our turn and she apologises and informs us that the hotel is overbooked and that we need to go to another hotel. At this point I challenged why they said us wait in a queue for over 14 minutes to be told this news. Suzanne response was 'it wasn't 15 minutes'. Suzanne was a trainee so I actually blame the person at the whoever her manager was and the person she spoke to on the phone who clearly was hiding. We requested that we speak to manager but were told that there isn't a manger on duty. This was clearly a lie as all hotel will have at least a DM on site at all times. My colleague then started challenging whether a room had been confirmed at the other hotel, the price difference, and whether 2 seperate rooms had been confirmed. Suzanne then had to call the other hotel to confirm the price and the booking. We were told the other hotel was £30 extra which we refused to pay. The other hotel would accept an IOU from the Tickle trout and wanted full payment settled. Eventually we were givem £30 cash from the tickle trout to pay the difference at the other hotel. I have stayed at many hotels and never had the experience of being overbooked. I stayed at The MacDonald Windsor for 2 nights and had a lovely experience but the whole experience with the tickle trout has put me off the Macdonald group.
