visited yesterday with 2 of our children, have to say they were very impressed they absolutely loved every part of it from the hands on exhibits inside, to the big melt show, and the outdoor activities, must remember swimming stuff next time lol! the cafe served a good selection of food at reasonable prices. overall a good value for money day out, can't wait to use our annual passes again, and bring our eldest to enjoy it too

We visited Magna Science Adventure yesterday with 2 adults/ 4 kids (8-14).

It was amazing and truly explained the history and importance of the British steel industry. Anyone who has themselves or had relatives work in such dangerous and tough conditions will appreciate this experience.

Ok, so a few things were out of order but I've never been anywhere that was 100pc fully operational.

The staff on entrance were very helpful and friendly as were those giving demonstrations.

The cafe is more like an indoor picnic area where you can consume your own food. This is something I prefer, especially with children.

Outdoor water park and playground was great too. The best bits for me, the fire tornado and the demonstration of the arc furnace.

User

Visited today for the first time since the site first opened - visited when it had been open a month or two. The sheer size of the building and the left over machinery is awe inspiring and that really is the key to the place - the pavilions are interesting but it’s the history of the steel industry that ‘steels’ the limelight in my opinion. The exhibits are clearly in need of some updating and repair as several didn’t work, but there was more than enough to play let with (as two adults). It was actually nice to wander round and not really see any staff - it felt like quite an adventure in the darkness.

User

Me and my mother visited the Magna Science Adventure Centre today on my 25th Birthday and we both enjoyed seeing all the exhibits that were on display throughout our visit to this attraction.

The reason why I've given a 4 Star review was because I expected this attraction to have more of the Science stuff that children are usually taught at school and what I do mean with regards to this is that I would suggest that (if it's possible and financially viable) Magna could include a Lightning pavilion, a Nature pavilion and a Space pavilion because they are all to do with the world of Science and I'm sure that once these new pavilions are included then adults and children would be able to understand more about this subject rather than just Earth, Water, Air and Fire.

If you can reply to this and see what you think about this suggestion then that would be very grateful to me.

User

Before we went here we read the reviews and my hubby really didn't want to go. However we went and am so pleased we did. Yes it's true it is cold ( go well wrapped up ) but kids were running round the water area in tee shirts and having a ball. Yes it's true some of the interactive things were not working but again a lot were.Did the kids enjoy it - yes they did! People shouldn't visit these old places and expect them to be ultra modern and bright. It brought home to us what it must have felt like working in those conditions. The three elements of Air, Water and Fire were brilliant. Yes a lot of it went over the kids heads but my granddaughter aged 7 learnt at least one thing and that was to do with the tornado which she eagerly regaled to her parents. Food was good and plentiful and in line with elsewhere regarding price. The play area outside was awesome and come the warmer weather and the water park is open will be even better. The tickets are valid for a year so if you return just to use the park it's money well spent. I think most people spend the morning in the steel works and afternoon in the park area. We will hopefully return in the warmer weather.

User

Want to love it. But so, so much of it doesn't work. I could forgive that if it wasn't forty quid to take the family. The exhibits need to be maintained. The Earth one in particular literally none of it worked bar one digger.

outside area is wonderful however. especially the aqua park.

User

Visited today with 10 year old son. Like many people have said, a lot of exhibits don't work. From memory, they are the same ones that were broken on our last visit 7 years ago. It might be a charity ( and I'm expecting the automated response to that effect), but at £20 for the two of us, its a little pricey for what it is. Anticipating the automated response, we're half way through 2018, and no improvements have been made so far. Overall, worth a visit with discount vouchers, but don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

User

Not worth the entrance cost when so much wasn't working, big disappointment. When you first arrive it is very dark and not clear where to go. The earth section needs more rocks and setting up for the day properly so it is ready to use. Best part of earth area would have been the diggers if they worked properly. A lot of the fire section wasn't working and not much of the first part of the water section worked. Everywhere looks very tired and could do with updating. The best part was the aquatek and playground which were both excellent.

User

It's okay. It's been a while since I came before but there is still a lot of broken areas which does dissapoint the children as they want to try everything ! I do hope more work is put into making everything up and running in the future. I wouldn't pay to come again unless a lot more care is put in espically due to the high price.

User

really enjoyed Magna its a good day out.....unfortunately it was spoilt somewhat because a lot of the interactive displays were not working.....this was annoying ( especially for the kids ) after paying for entry to not be able to enjoy the visit fully...the manager needs to address the many problems there are.

User

Visited for my Daughter’s Birthday the majority of the exhibits/experiences were broken especially in the water area. Lighting was very poor and even though the queue to pay was minimal was very slow moving. All in all it was a very disappointing experience and I wouldn’t recommend Magna to others.

User

So, we visited Magna last Easter for the 1st time and we weren't too happy that a fair few of the exhibits/interactions just weren't working. We commented on the fact but just thought "well, maybe they've been busy for the holidays and just haven't had a chance to fix them". Anyhoo, today we went back as we had the annual pass with 2 weeks left on it to find that even more of the interactive displays weren't working.

I know this place is charity run but keeping up with the maintenance work is to be expected. I mean, only 1 of three excavators in the Earth level were working meaning kids were having to wait longer, a lot of the water area wasn't working and the fire area, well, the only point going in there was to get warmed by the fire tornado.

I'm not happy, even our 8 year old made a comment about the number of displays not working. This needs addressing.

User

I’ve been before and loved it, sadly this time I won’t be coming back. In the middle of the school holidays and it was almost empty and now I know why. It’s such a shame but I understand if a business is struggling it doesn’t want to pay out on maintenance however at least a third of the exhibits/experiences were broken or had signs saying it wasn’t working / closed due to maintenance. Trip hazard of a broken light in the floor. Massive wedding party (looking amazing but bad organisation and timing) with smokey flares in the car park and entrance meant we couldn’t get in the car park, queues to get in and my daughter having an asthma attack due to the smoke, so she couldn’t play in the outdoor play area. Not to mention the extreme revving of the sports cars in the car park. 3 staff staring blankly (literally not doing anything but stood looking bored) at customers waiting to be served in the cafe area (hoping someone else would serve I presume).

£30+ spent on a few ‘ahh’ moments like the fire tornado, but other than that not worth it at all. Great staff though, just a shame everything else let you down.

User

It was freezing cold inside and poorly lit in places. Few things to look at and the activities were uninspiring/boring. Nothing for younger children and food prices in the cafe were extortionate. A fair number of the exhibits were out of order and most lacked any sort of in-depth explanation regarding what we were looking at. Very boring, not particularly educational and very disappointing.

User

Went with my family on this Easter and we were really disappointed. Half of equipment don’t work, as well factory was bad lit, basically you walk in the darkness. We were expecting to see equipment in details, but it is so dark that you even can’t read the text. Only one of three elevators work. As well not much history put into the museum. Only one thing what was good it was fire tornado, one star for that.

User

We are a family that loves to adventure and often go to crazy, imaganitive places whenever we can, so thought Magna would be right up our street.........WRONG!! Here’s why and I hope it helps people not to waste there money.....

1. It was filthy looked liked it hadn’t had a good clean since 2001

2. It was very out of date

3. Half the attractions were broken or in a poor state of repair

4. Most of the attractions/exhibits had no explanation or function

5. It didn’t really cater for children/not child friendly explanations - far too much writing on the limited bits where writing was present

6. £5 minimum spend on card in cafe......might be nice if they told you before you got to the till!!

Please don’t waste your money!!!

User

Upon arrival it looks closed and derelict with overgrown weeds covering car park. Most of the water stations were out of order or didn’t work, 2 out of the 3 JCB diggers were broken, the air pavilion had 2-3 stations broken, the fire section was boring and again most of it didn’t work. Overall across the 4 pavilions only a small section of each stations worked. Not suitable for babies or toddlers needing high chair for cafe (well, more like a coffee machine and dining room). Staff are super miserable especially the ones at reception, not welcoming at all! Won’t be returning, couldn’t wait to get out of there!!

User

If I could give it less than 1 star I would! Paid £43 for a family of 4 thinking it would be a great day out...how wrong was I!!! Walking round and half the stuff doesn't even work and one of the main reasons we went was so the kids could go to the magna mayhem which when we got in there told us we would have to pay extra although it stated it nowhere online or on any posters and they didn't tell us it would be any extra when we paid. Ended up having 2 upset children who got bored after 5 mins. Would never ever go back wish I would have thought twice before going this morning what a waste of money and effort. Utterly disgusted

User

Don't go with babies or people on stage 3 diets! overall very educational centre and the magna mayhem session was brilliant with lovely staff - however totally let down by the fact there is inadequate bottle and food warming facilities for babies or those on stage 3/puréed diets -there is no microwave to use despite there being a cafe serving hot food? I was offered luke warm - not boiling water -to heat babies bottle which due to the cold air temperature -so was unable to feed my weaning baby - hall where cafe is was very large with plenty of tables for own picnics but can't understand why there isn't a microwave to use ? Plenty of space to have one -why sell family tickets when the place isn't geared up for family's? Had to leave early due to screaming baby who I was unable to feed her food-total sham -as we travelled over a hour to get here and are r local couldn't think of anywhere else to hear the food so returned home with the food instead - really upset my family with a screaming baby all the way home! Problem could easily be solved and cafe staff couldn't care less - may return when baby is eating sandwiches at a push !!!
