About Maidenhead Aquatics At Peterborough

Meeting all your needs for Cold water, Tropical fish and Marine fish.

Maidenhead Aquatics At Peterborough Description

Opened during February 2010, Maidenhead Aquatics @ Peterborough is located inside Peterborough Garden Park, a modern retail complex that is also home to an extensive Van Hage garden centre and numerous other outlets.

This branch of Maidenhead Aquatics is uniquely designed with a contemporary layout, providing everything for the fishkeeper in a light and airy atmosphere. Store specialities include nano fish, shrimps, tetras, Malawi cichlids, and aquatic plants. A wide range of aquariums are always available with a comprehensive selection of dry goods to compliment them. The outside area provides a range of ponds, waterfalls, and, when in season: pond plants and pond fish. A large selection of filters, pumps, and other pond equipment may be found inside the store.

The centrepiece of the shop is the huge 5300 litre (1166 gal) planted display tank. Measuring 3m x 2m x 0. 8m (10' x 7' x 33"), it is the largest planted aquascape in the UK. This mammoth tank was featured in the Feb 2012 issue of Practical Fishkeeping magazine, with a photographic step-by-step diary depicting the aquascape as carried out by the UK Aquatic Plant Society (UKAPS).

Tip: If you live in the Peterborough area or East Anglia and you are filling a pond or tank with tap water you need to be aware that the local water has a high phosphate level. This is harmless to fish and us but in the pond or tank environment it does cause algae problems such as green water and string algae. Water conditioners do not remove phosphate. However you can buy liquid and granular phosphate removers to reduce this potential problem. We sell both! If you are not convinced then get your tap, pond or aquarium tested for phosphate. Again we sell test kits and can test your water for you.

User

Tip: Often when bought from new aquarium filters contain carbon granules or foam. This however only has a limited life of normally about six weeks. After then it can start releasing back into the aquarium unpleasant things that it previously took out. It is therefore very important to check if carbon is present and to replace carbon frequently.

User

Tip for ponds: As water temperatures start to drop a very useful bit of kit is a pond thermometer. As some foods such as high protein pellets are not easy for the fish to digest at lower temperatures. At around 10 degrees C you should feed easy to digest food such as wheat germ pellets. Once the temperature drops below 8 degrees C feeding should be stopped.
