Maidstone And Tunbridge Wells Nhs Trust Description

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the south east of England. The Trust was legally established on 14 February 2000 and provides a full range of general hospital services, and some areas of specialist complex care to around 560, 000 people living in the south of West Kent and the north of East Sussex.

The Trust’s core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs, and it operates from two main clinical sites: Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. The latter is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) hospital and provides wholly single bedded en-suite accommodation for in-patients.

The Trust employs a team of over 5000 full and part-time staff. In addition, the Trust provides specialist cancer services to around 1. 8 million people across Kent, Hastings and Rother, via the Kent Oncology Centre, which is sited at Maidstone Hospital, and at Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury.

The Trust also provides outpatient clinics across a wide range of locations in Kent and East Sussex.

Our Birth Centre at Maidstone has celebrated another wonderful milestone. Little Ada Mason became the Centre’s 3,000th delivery last Thursday (4th October). Ada entered the world at 12.21pm weighing in at 6lb, 9.5oz.
The new born is pictured with her parents Abbie and Elliot Mason. The Maidstone couple were presented with a special gift by midwife Katie Smith.
... Abbie said: “It couldn’t have gone better. We had a water birth and it was really relaxed. The Birth Centre feels like you are at home with support.”
Elliot added: “I would like to thank everyone who has helped us. The whole experience has been really good.”

A huge thank you to a Maidstone family who have donated an incredibly generous £355,000 to us.
Roy and Margaret Sutcliffe gifted the money to our Kent Oncology Centre to buy equipment for diagnosing and treating urological cancers.
The donation will be used to purchase a range of medical items, including two ultrasound machines, a bladder scanner, cystoscopy scopes and to renew surgical instruments.
... We would like to thank the Sutcliffe family for their amazing gift, which will make a significant difference to improving the way we treat patients with urological cancers.
Thanks to Mr and Mrs Sutcliffe we will be able to progress with our pioneering work in cancer treatment and continue to provide our patients with first class, high quality care.

Went to a&e for my 4month old baby with concerns for dehydration as he had gone 23hours without a wet nappy! Despite being very busy the reception staff were welcoming and friendly. The paediatric triage nurse was amazing and adorable with our son and the pediactric team in riverbank ward were supportive and lovely. My husband and I felt truly taken care of and reassured. Thank you to the amazing staff this evening! And Happy 70th anniversary for the NHS!

We are just starting a very long treatment cue at The Kent Oncology Centre. Never in any health provision in the UK have I ever seen such dedication and hard work provided by the team throughout this centre of excellence. This place and each member of the team from Reception, G4S right up to Dr Russell Burcombe and the warriors on Charles Sickens Day Unit. Keep on Keeping On. You are stars within the service and deserve maximum recognition. Thank you for helping my mum and us as a family through uncertain times. Here's to the future. All of our love and gratitude.

User

Thank you very much to the lovely staff at Maidstone A&E last night who dealt with my husband and his dislocated shoulder in such a kind and professional manner. Everyone we met couldn't have been nicer and although we were there for a long time (Friday night A&E!) we were kept informed the whole time.

We would particularly like to mention Triage Nurse Practitioner Craig Lumsden who kept coming back to check on my husband even though we were under the doctor's care.

We were really impressed by everybody so thank you once again.

Thank you for the lovely clear pathways this snowy morning. Very grateful when I brought my father-in-law in for his Onclogy appt. He could walk in safely. Thank you for a smooth running Oncology clinic with an amazing team of healthcare professionals, who made us all feel relaxed and valued.

Spent the Easter weekend on the Cornwallis ward at Maidstone Hospital and received the best possible care and attention. The staff were simply amazing, each and every one of them deserve a Nothing was too much trouble. Thank goodness for our NHS and it’s truly wonderful staff!

My wife has recently undergone an angioplasty and had stents inserted in her blocked artery. Obviously this made us both somewhat nervous but the treatment she received from the staff in the cardiac cath lab through to the CCU ward was second to none. The care, communication and dignity was superb. You have given us the best Christmas of all. We both wish you a Happy Christmas and not too busy.

My partner was bought in by ambulance last night after being knocked off his motorbike. Despite him saying he was mostly fine, the doctor did a full check up on him and all staff were lovely, always explaining what they were doing and showing us the scan images. We were there about three hours in the end but never felt like we were waiting long for anything! Thank you to everyone in a and e and the ambulance crew!!

User

I was having an ACL reconstruction in the orthopaedic ward at Maidstone and it was my first time being under General anaesthetic so needless to say I was bricking it.

I can't commend the staff high enough for all that they did for me and the general smoothness and well running of the whole procedure. There were 5 of us due to have the operation done, or something similar and I was first to go. The doctor came and spoke to me in detail about what we would be doing, the results we were aiming to achieve and how it was going to happen. Then the anesthetist came and spoke much the same way and his role in my operation and he made me feel comfortable and confident with what I was about to go through. The nurses were on point and quick to do the work they needed to do. Making everyone else's jobs easier so I can't thank them enough for an excellent job and again making me feel comfortable and safe.

Thanks to the lady that held my hand when I was getting put under. I didn't voice it to you then or even look at you as I was so nervous but it helped me so much and I'd like to say thank you.:) Mr Bowman and co let me know the procedure went to plan and I couldn't be happier.

The toast and strawberry jam and tea was the best thing to wake up to hahah so thank you.

I'm so greatful to have had such a wonderful team working on me and can't thank you enough. Keep doing what you're doing!

User

I had to go to A&E Easter Sunday evening and the total time spent here was under 3hrs. I thought this was outstanding considering the waiting room was very busy.

I met a lady there who had come from the William Harvey, who’s waiting time was 3hrs just to see Triage and apparently running up to 8hrs in total! She walked out and went to Maidstone. I chose Maidstone Hospital, (even though It’s miles from me) because I wouldn’t go to the William Harvey out of choice, it’s not a particularly good Hospital in my opinion.

Thanks to all the staff at Maidstone for a clean, well run A&E.

Having had a minor heart attack a few days ago, I was taken to Pembury Hospital and have to say I was amazed by the wonderful dedicated staff on the Cardiac Care Unit. Every one of them was 1st class and I cannot praise them enough. The medical treatment was also top notch and I am so grateful to them all - thanks from the bottom of my repaired heart!!!

User

Had my second cataract op at Maidstone Hospital Eye Unit last friday afternoon. The whole of the staff involved from reception to the surgeon [Mr Marshall] were outstanding in all respects. The nursing staff in particular were kind, caring and very informative and efficient. I would like to think this accolade will be passed on to those who were on duty at the time.

I only hope that the follow up admin procedures to the after care appointment is as efficient as this is what let the side down after my previous op.

User

Again excellent service.. A&E staff Incredible again. Pembury waste of time and money super hospital only thing super is size of it..Please put maidstone back n the board...

We recently had to attend Maidstone hospital for our sons fracture clinic. As always the doctor we saw was pleasant and really friendly, and I have no issue with the doctors and nurses on site, some of the reception staff could do with a learn to smile course and a politeness course but overall front line staff are always brilliant, the thing that I have marked the hospital down on is something I think is out of their control but something needs to be done. We Arrived on site in plenty of time and entered the car park by A&E as we took our ticket I could see already a number of forlorn faces drifting around the car park! We made our way down to the end by the main entrance only to find a large number of cars abandoned making progress around the car park difficult. We then went to the far end and tried all the rows to find no spaces to be had, plenty of abandoned cars our last attempt was toward the exit gate where we were faced with 3 cars turning around to go back down the car park. We joined suit and I was amazed to see the ticket machines gladly dishing out tickets to unsuspecting visitors! I ended up having to let my wife and son out of the car so that they wouldn’t be late for the appointment and I spent the next 40 minutes looking for a space. Seeing that I wouldn’t get parked I stopped by the ticket machine to validate my free parking but no I’d been driving around that long I no had to pay for the privilege! I managed to talk a willing person into letting me have their ticket and taking a new one in the other lane! After all she wasn’t going to get parked any time soon! As I walked back to my car another gentleman with his elderly relative said ‘ we’re going you can have our space, it took me over an hour to get parked!’ So I reversed with him back up the car park and he left and I had his space! Yet the ticket machine continued to issue tickets! I’m guessing the system is intelligent enough to know how many spaces it can allocate and is also intelligent enough to do the maths one car out one car in!? But it just doesn’t work! I know you can’t have vehicles queuing outside A&E and I know it’s not really the hospitals fault it’s the car park management companies fault but the system needs to work. Tempers were getting frayed as after I managed to park one of the cars I had seen driving around when I got there was still driving around. Signage isn’t clear enough that there is a considerable amount of parking behind the hospital, if a system was in place that actually told people the main car park was full they could head off there! Going to any hospital is bad enough under any circumstance having to get stressed out fishing for a Parking space just adds to it. The hospital trust probably pays a huge amount to the car park management company and it’s them that needs to be made to sort out their problem!

User

after a death I found the berievement department a let down, the office was shut for 2 days following my loss, so no help in obtaining a death certificate, when I was finally contacted and told I could pick the death certificate up at the main reception they got my name wrong, then after giving funeral directors all the paperwork on Tuesday 3rd april I'm still waiting on Maidstone hospital to give the go ahad to pick the persons body up nearly a week later, time is running out as the body needs dressing ect ready for funeral and for family members to view, I'm so unimpressed with this service after the car he received b4 hand was excellent but after was discraceful, this is so wrong a big let down and so streessfull at this time, strss I don't need, so well done on this its a discrace

User

This poor rating is specifically for the Appointments telephone service. It took ages to get through to cancel an appointment for my mother. I explained she is receiving end of life care and no longer needing Opthalmology clinic. A month later I receive a new appointment for her through the post!! I have tried over several days and at various times to cancel again. The number given for cancellations is constantly engaged, or if I do get through as I did today, I am told I am 10th in a queue which moved only two spaces in 20 minutes of holding. At that rate it will take over an hour before I speak to someone. Apart from cost of call it is unreasonable to expect callers to hold for so long. Unfortunately I have now given up which means a missed appointment which could have been offered to someone else. It's exasperating and very disappointing. Costly all round!!

User

Pembury Hospital is the worst place on earth, try parking if you have an appointment, you need at least an hour before your appointment to hopefully secure a spot, stressed before being seen it's a joke

User

In respect of the appointment telephone service - ridiculous, appaling and not fit for purpose. 8 calls and a total of 60 minutes on hold 1 day and then the next day (while not at work) 1 call and 1 1/4 hours on hold until I was able to speak to anyone to change an elderly relatives appointment. How are vulnerable patients supposed to cope with that? No wonder people just don't turn up for appointments.

User

Currently been sat in A&E at Maidstone Hospital with my dad since 6.10 this morning, 10 hours and counting and still no closer to a bed on a ward for him!
