Maidstone Churches Winter Shelter

About Maidstone Churches Winter Shelter

Maidstone Churches Winter Shelter provides a hot meal and a bed in warm, safe surroundings for up to 15 street homeless guests, over a 12-13 week period during the 3 coldest months of the winter, with the help of many amazing volunteers!

Maidstone Churches Winter Shelter Description

Maidstone Churches Winter Shelter brings together Churches, church members and volunteers in Maidstone. The Shelter works by each of seven venues (six local churches and the Maidstone Day Centre) providing overnight hospitality and accommodation, one night a week for up to 15 guests over a 12 week period during the coldest part of the winter. We are supported by over 200 volunteers who, each night, set up the Shelter, cook and serve an evening meal and breakfast, provide hospitality and a safe overnight environment to ensure a good night's sleep.

As well as a determined board of Trustees, the Shelter employs a small team to provide operations management, accommodation, administration and volunteer support. The Trustees recognise that whilst the Shelter has improved year on year, there is an ongoing need to learn lessons from the last winter.

The shelter opens on 23rd December and remains open every night until March 31st every year.
