I love opening Facebook and being greeted by a picture of Shetland ponies. The Munchkins never fail to bring a smile to my face. :D

Those of you who have been following Bambi's progress... Today was a huge step for her, as Tammy's brother (who Bambi doesn't know) came and gave her the pretend injection. I wasn't there, which was also a first, but they carried out the same steps as I have been doing throughout, and she was fantastic. She has begun to anticipate these sessions positively, and whickers when we appear.

Needle-shy Bambi... I've always wanted to be a vet, so was delighted to dress up as one in this part of Bambi's shaping plan! Stuart at Summerleaze Vets Equine gave me some overalls and a woolly hat to wear to look a bit more vet-like in the training towards her calmly being injected. She will need to be sedated on the 5th December, so I am working with her extensively this week at Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue. A huge thank you also to Barbara Bell for funding extra tr...aining sessions. Other things i've been putting in place are holding the syringe between my teeth while I put the pretend needle in (using a ball point pen), and fiddling about a little bit. She's also had a higher value food reward today - carrots! Tammy was holding her and giving the treats, but we changed it about a bit so that she could take pictures. Even a change like that needs to be taken into account, and you might need to lower your expectations when one of the trainers involved starts to take pictures etc.

Wouldn't use anyone else for fly's needs, Maisie is amazing at what she does and has worked wonders on Fly, she is extremely caring and always watches to see little signs that Fly just needs a break for a while, a true horse woman! X

Such a kind way with horses and explains everything that she's doing. My pony is really enjoying his treatments and it's nice to see him choosing to have them and being able to exercise choice.
