We're honoured to be hosting a wake today for someone who spent many of the days of their youth in our beautiful music hall.
This means we will be opening at little later than usual at 5pm.

User

We had a fantastic time at our soft launch last night and want to say a huge thank you to the whole team at Nottinghamshire YMCA for helping us getting ready to re-open!
We also want to thank the wonderful Mildred Freeman, Lady Historian for being our Victorian compere and the The Limelight Orchestra for bringing some music back to the music hall.
The bar is open as usual today and the kitchen will be offering a sandwiches menu from Sunday 30th and we hope to have the kitchen fully open very soon.

User

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that on Friday 28th September Malt Cross will be opening its doors once more and we cannot wait to see you all very soon!
Nottinghamshire YMCA are helping us re-open as a new business with the same heart and spirit as before and we'll be working together in partnership to do this. We are also delighted to be welcoming senior staff from Nottinghamshire YMCA who will be joining us as the new trustees of the Malt Cross Trust bringing a comp...lete change in leadership to the charity too.
We're sure you will have plenty of questions that we will do our very best to answer below. Firstly we want to reassure you that:
- All of the old staff have been paid and have been contacted about new job opportunities
- If you purchased a ticket for an event that was cancelled or a voucher from Malt Cross before the closure in July as a goodwill gesture we will be in touch in the next few weeks with more information about transferring your ticket to a different date or sending you a voucher equivalent to the cost of your purchase
- If you have an event booked in at Malt Cross we are in the process of contacting everyone individually. If you need to confirm things sooner contact us at info@maltcross.com or by giving us a call on 0115 941 1048
Please do bear with us as there are only a few staff back in the office at the moment so it may take a little longer than usual to respond to your query!

We report with deep regret that we, as Trustees of the Malt Cross Trust Company (03228965) and Charity have been informed by the directors of our trading subsidiary, the Malt Cross Ltd (04923936) that owing to the tough trading environment for bars and restaurants widely reported in the press, they have taken the difficult decision to cease their bar and café business being operated as a tenant of the Malt Cross building.
Please then be advised that with immediate effect thi...s Wednesday 18th July 2018 the Malt Cross building at 16, St James’s Street is no longer open to the general public for drinks, food and events which was the primary activity within the building.
We are very aware that our award-winning cafe bar, at the heart of our building, has a place in the affections of so many who use Nottingham’s City Centre. We offer our thanks for the dedication of all the staff, who, with our regular clientele, have made it a great place to meet, to be, and to enjoy the city’s nightlife. We do hope to host similar activities in the future and are actively exploring new possibilities.
The Malt Cross Trust Company, a Christian charity, has responsibility for this beautiful old music hall and for community projects such as Street Pastors. These projects will continue as usual. Other tenants of the Trust: Handmade and Plates Records, also continue to trade in our building.

Eek there's only 10 days to go until The Benefactors' Bash and we can't wait to turn back the clock and relive our Victorian music hall days!
If you fancy joining in the fun tickets are available on our website www.maltcross.com/events or at the bar.
It'll be a cracking evening of songs, stories, magic and more and the best part is it's all to help a good cause as we are raising funds for our charity project Nottingham Street Pastors that sees 70 amazing volunteers going out on Friday and Saturday evenings to care for vulnerable people in the city centre.

User

It's so good to finally be able to fully fill in the on tap board!
This week's guests are Totally Brewed's Peanut Butter Stout, Abstract Jungle Brewery's Sturdy IPA, Adnams' Earl Grey Lager, Fourpure Brewing Co.'s Chai Milkshake Pale & Marble Brewery's Table Beer.
Which one will you discover first?

User

Table Beer is a sessionable pale ale from Marble Brewery with notes of kiwi, tangerine and papaya. Come in and give it a try!

User

What a fab place we traded there on steampunk Sunday. Lovely folks

User

We don’t usually go in the Malt Cross but decided to in for a change last night. The Christmas tree was lovely and the whole place had a lovely atmosphere. The DJ played a Dr Who remix which was amazing. Didn’t realise food was served at the Malt House, will be back.

User

We attended the Beer and Carols night and the staff went overboard to accomodate my disabled friend. You rarely get this exceptional service in this day and age. And more importantly, it was a great night. Best Mulled Wine around! Thank you, Andrea and Lucy x

User

Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and great food

User

I was a regular in The Malt Cross every Friday, Saturday, Sunday night back in 1985 - when I was 19. Always went in the corner near the downstairs gents loo's because that was next to the bar in those days. This year I celebrated my 52nd Birthday and decided as this venue now held a licence again and stayed open later it was time for a reunion of the old gang in our old haunt. The staff were friendly and I have decided it is a place to revisited for a girls night out and catch up. It was quiet enough for us to chat clearly.

User

I visited while on holiday a couple of weeks ago, and I wish I lived closer so I could be a regular! I was there for the quiz, which is one of the best I've ever done, but I loved everything about it - the atmosphere, efficient friendly staff, the food...yeah, definitely going back next time I'm in the area.

User

Happy staff, beautiful surrounds, excellent place to chill. Great to see such an amazing part of historical Nottingham preserved. Doing a fabulous job of supporting those in need too...well worth a visit.

User

Had a really informative tour which was really cheap. Lovely lunch afterwards

User

Great atmosphere and first rate selection of beers.

User

Fabulous time with a great group of people

User

Dropped in on a busy Saturday night, had to wait for a table but then managed to grab a burger. Very nice it was too, the beers were good and I love the vibe of the place.

User

Another epic beer and carols night last night! It’s one of my most favourite Christmas traditions now! Long may it continue!

User

Amazing place! We'd been told about it by 'Robin Hood' on guided tour of Nottingham and couldn't resist lunching there in such unusual surroundings, an old music hall! Food was good, staff very friendly and helpful! Above all this is the home of local Street Pastors and is a not for profit enterprise! Not only did we enjoy a good lunch we helped a Nottingham 'good cause'

User

Always one of our favourite places to visit when we come to Nottingham! Staff are always friendly and helpful

Clientele are calm and quiet so no unnecessary drunks!

Drinks could be cheaper though

Love coming here!

User

Always come in here for a cup of tea or a pint of ale after afternoon shopping. The interior is amazing and the bar staff really friendly and helpful. There is also a good selection of real ales and comfy sofas for relaxing on.

User

Your dj's are completely missing the point tonight

Great tunes but it's not the market bar circa 1994

Really mixed crowd of ages but people are struggling to talk due to volume

User

Great pub the staff always so lovely great ales and food

User

Attended the Gin tasting in the cave! Fabulous setting, knowledgeable hostess and yummy gin! Would recommend for any Gin lover!

User

I love the place itself but the service is generally poor. Staff take ages to serve at the bar, have no idea who is next & dont clear tables for hours. Just not acceptable- management & training needs to improve to improve takings. I have walked out several times after waiting too long to get served
