Mama Liz'S Description

Mama Liz's is a slice of New Orleans in every way, our drinks, food menu, ambience and decor are all a celebration of the vibrancy and world famous atmosphere of that remarkable city which has given the world so much in so many ways, food, music and good times.

We are spread across three levels with Mama Liz's bar on the ground floor serving a range of cocktails, continental lagers, real ales, bar bowls and po boys and much more in a brilliantly recreated slice of Bourbon St, New Orleans. The bar was also awarded the Peterborough & District CAMRA pub of the year award for 2010.

Upstairs is Mama Liz's Soulfood Shack and Steakhouse, serving Cajun and Creole Classics like Gumbo, Jambalaya and Cajun Chicken and loads more.
The decor and lighting reflects perfectly the New Orleans theme of the venue and the restaurant is equally at home as a place for an intimate dinner for two or for a party.
All dishes are prepared freshly to order, using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. The menu caters for all tastes, whether you favour smooth and creamy or hot and spicy. Our excellent range of vegetarian dishes ensures there is something for everyone.

Downstairs, in the cellar, is the remarkable Voodoo Lounge Music Club, set in a Victorian wine bottling cellar. An incredible music venue which will astound and thrill even the most seasoned gig going veteran. With the stage set amongst the brick arches, containing some original 'OBEY' artwork on the walls around the stage, DJ desk and bar.
The Voodoo Lounge is, without doubt, one of the best live music venues in the East Midlands. Its reputation has spread from Scotland to London and there is a queue of top artistes wanting to play here.
With a dedicated stage, house sound system and lighting, the venue produces superb sound and spectacle for the audience.
Acts range from metal to funk to folk to blues to jazz and all points between, working with several different local promoters, with regular comedy and poetry evenings as a bonus.

The Voodoo Lounge has, in little over two years since it's birth, played host to such musical and comedy acts as Scott H Biram (USA), Mark Morriss, Miles Hunt, Blaze Bayley, Petit Vodo (France), Andrew Rankin of The Pogues, Milton Jones and Heather Peace. In the coming months we will be hosting New Device, Bob Wayne and the Outlaw Carnies, Jo Caulfield, Fury UK as well as welcoming back Miles Hunt.

Vice Squad are a female fronted UK Punk Rock band that delivers short sharp songs with incisive lyrics spat out over a thunderous rhythm and machine gun Rock ’n’ Roll guitars. Renowned for their high energy live shows the band deliver their set with passion and humour and have been touring and releasing successful albums since the1980s. The band are currently recording their new album ‘Battle of Britain’ . Their last album ‘Cardboard Country’ was released on their own Last Ro...ckers label and launched on the back of a very successful Pledge campaign raising funds for the Shelter homeless charity in line with the album title.
Vice Squad is fronted by raucous voiced singer/guitarist Beki Bondage who was featured on the front cover of a number of influential music tabloids such as Melody Maker, NME, Sounds, Record Mirror and Smash Hits. The band is 100% DIY and has no record company or management backing. Since reforming Vice Squad in 1997 the band has released several albums with powerful punk songs that are very well received by fans and press. In keeping with the DIY ethic the albums were recorded in the front room of Beki’s South London flat.

Wow, what a great place. Loved the food, couldn't fault it. Then down to the Voodoo lounge, what a great place for an intimate gig. Saw Dr Feelgood who were excellent, supported by The Wilbur Project, equally as good. Have nothing negative to say.

We like going to restaurants, we like good food, good service and a nice atmosphere. We have also been to a majority of the restaurants in Stamford. Mama Liz's is easily the best in town. The food is outstanding, tasty and fresh. If you are unsure what to have I can recommend the ribs. I love this place and if we ever have friends come visit us, this is where we take them. I love this place.

Upstairs, food and drink, perfect.

Voodoo lounge sound man is a great guy, very helpful, bar staff friendly, can't praise it enough.

User

Such a lovely place with friendly welcoming service to the band and us groupies! The decor is fun and chilled with a great festival vibe. All of the staff were fabulous. I would highly recommend!

User

Really nice food, we will come back again, thank you.

User

Really cool place to see a gig.

Friendly crowd and great PA.

Staff really good. Good choice of drinks and the restaurant is fantastic.

Jon Walker An awesome night, and great to see in the intimate voodoo lounge! Top marks to Mama Liz's for attracting such great acts to the town, it really was the perfect setting! and thanks to Ben Ottewell for a brilliant performance! A partisan crowd captivated and hugely entertained. I was double booked, had a date, so took her along to the Gig, she had only seen a bit of youtube footage, but I was confident she would have a great night. She loved every minute, and a new fan is born! I was moved to buy Ben a Bulleit Bourbon and coke, my favourite tipple also, He seemed to appreciate it! thanks to all concerned, and keep up the great work

User

Good food. Best cocktails made with quality spirits and a great selection of craft beers. All the staff are welcoming and so for the restaurant manageress. Dom on the bar is always there to shake up a great drink. Recommended for any occasion.

User

Definitely eat here again. Great value, very tasty food and helpful friendly staff.

User

Came to see The Outsiders /The Houndogs rockabilly gig . Got there early to Have a drink and eat absolutly Brilliant. Real ales and food was great friendly people. Will be coming again for sure loved the place

User

Came here yesterday with our friends for something to eat - food was delicious and the service was great the only thing I would say is the music was a little loud but other than that it was a lovely evening x

User

Absolutely love this place. Great venue for bands. Good beer and good food definitely worth a visit

User

My jambalaya was absolutely amazing I loved every single mouthful, the service was fantastic and loved the range of drinks. My only criticism would be the pudding 2 small scoops of ice cream with chocolate sauce doesn't make a hot fudge Sunday especially not at £5.95 each.

User

It was nice but the younger staff could do with more training spilling drinks on table .

User

I like this place although some of the crowd didn’t as they said it wasn’t a proper pub. Choice of 3 good cask ales in excellent condition. I have eaten here in the past and their Burgers are excellent too.

User

Great venue! BUT your voodoo lounge is very damp and mouldy especially when down there for hours, there's no air and gets red hot, felt sick and faint.. you ever thought of getting an air purifier for the celler area? Be a much better gigging experience. Throat and chest really bad today. Xx

User

Food and cocktails were amazing as always. Would have got 5* if the waitress hadn't left us waiting 50 minutes for our starters because she forgot to give our orders to the chef Other than that, extremely good.

User

The afternoon started well enough when a our group of girls were shown to a very nice room upstairs for a cocktail-making demonstration, but went downhill fast . One of the girls was a bit enthusiastic pouring out her cocktail and was told by the barman " go ahead and poison yourself " . Then he served on of our group with a Pernod from the bar but refused another , saying " it's not a free bar " We had to wait far too long between each drink and certainly didn't get our money's worth. The thing that made us all really angry was when we were leaving and a really rude , arrogant man ( the manager ? ) pushed one of our girls out of the way to stop another taking a glass outside , totally over the top behaviour! We certainly won't be returning

User

Played here on Saturday in house promoter ran away before the second to last band played and didn't pay anyone.

Unfortunately don't think we will ever be playing there again
