Yesterday we visited your university as my youngest daughter, Charlotte Hurst is looking to do a degree in Tourism management, after fours years of gaining experience in the travel industry.

We used the park and ride facilities which were great , very well organised despite being very busy, followed by the same friendly welcome at registration. We attended various talks , show rounds and accomation tours , lots of staff and students to answer questions and smile and be great ambassadors for the university.

However we met a member of staff called Eddie , who turned out to be head of faculty for the course Charlotte is interested in , he gave Charlotte over 30 mins of his obviously very valuable time to talk to her on a one to one about the course , he was extremely possative and proactive not only about the course but also about career prospects after.

Eddie was the high light of a very interesting day

Fingers crossed Charlotte gets offered a place

I think it's safe to say her heart is set on Manchester Met. Many thanks to all involved

Went to the open day with my son yesterday. Really impressed.

This University really does make you feel at home! The staff are so friendly, approachable and will make the time to support you in your own life or with your degree. It's amazing how many support services we have and it really is an incredible place to study in an amazing city! Very organised, and it has made my life better because of all the opportunities it gives! I'd recommend this University to anyone, especially if you are studying English, our English department really is a dream!

User

The facilities of this Uni is very modern. The LPC is very compact but the lecturers offer great help and support.

I have no regrets choosing MMU😉

Looking for someone to share my tenancy with, 2 bed flat, not far from rusholme or universities , 400 per month per person not including bills, free parking looking for female only, no one that parties/ loud or messy someone that’s easy to get along with! User

I love this university, I've made such good friends here and the teaching staff are great. I study Psychology and Criminology and you can tell how passionate the lecturers are about their research! I'm nearing the end of my second year and I'm dreading graduation this time next year because I've loved University so much!

User

I have just finished the first year of my criminology and sociology degree and I am literally gutted that it's gone by so quickly. I have loved every minute so far and I'm desperately waiting for 2nd year to start.

I have tried to think critically whilst writing this review (tutors will be proud) but I reallt don't have a single bad thing to say about my experiences or the course so far, it is interesting and thought provoking, it makes you question things you think you know about the world and that's amazing. The staff are great they teach with such passion and the support that's available is superb. If I have a problem of any kind there is someone I can go to and if they can't help, they know someone who can.

I'm currently revising for my first exam (still can't think of a bad word lol) so I'd better get on with that.

Can't wait for September and what it has in store for me!

User

Great open day. Helpful student ambassadors, approachable lecturers and course leaders and fantastic student services. Such a useful day to really get a feel for it. Thank you for your hospitality MMU!

User

Went to applicant day with my son, this was so worth while. The uni was great offers so much and the students have plenty of support. Lecturers were friendly and accomodation.

Visited a couple places in accomodation oxford court, great looked just like it is on the net. Clean fresh close too. Went to see birley halls with too ambassadors “Tanisha and Michael” a massive thank you! You were friendly and really helped me see how the uni would benefit and help my son. I have been very apprehensive in him choosing mmu but we went away yesterday with a 100% mind made up that this uni is for him, all down to you guys!

Did not realise that birley halls is shared bathrooms as in two students one bathroom, this is not explained clearly on the accomodation page, we were under the assumption 12 students sharing a bathroom!

Please get this amended on the website, we could have missed out on this viewing, so glad we did have look and met this two lovely people, as I’m sure up until then we were still a little undecided.

Fantastic uni, it ticks all my sons boxes. Looking forward to September

User

Hello! Anybody who's a current student or alumini of the MA buying and merchandising course?

User

Can honestly say the best thing was the student accommodation. After talking to the tutor who was head of fashion and her looking at my daughter as if she was and never would be fit for uni, then to be patronised by the same woman. What an awful experience to give to someone on their first ever university open day visit. The area isn't very appealing, I would have been worried for my daughters safety had it of been a uni she ended up choosing to study at.

Manchester Metropolitan University is the worst place for an education. It really does live up to its reputation as a second-class university. The staff here are really poor. They can't speak English, communicate, teach properly and basically found the education system a sanctuary for incompetence. It is so unbelievable that students don't understand with their blank faces. Lecturers here are work shy. They want to come into work and do the minimum amount of work as possible. They don't understand what work is and that they are here to serve students. They have designed the teaching so they can do the least amount of work.

Staff will give a list of instructions such as Nicola (a mosey Lecturer) on a piece of paper and sod you off. She won't explain it to you or ensure that students have understood. They don't teach you anything. If you can read a piece of paper to yourself then this what they called teaching.

The whole work is design so that she does the least amount of teaching. Everything was on a paper and she did the minimum of teaching. She would ignore students, and put a negative exterior around her, so people won't approach her and failed to ask. She failed to anticipate where she left off and take them on the journey. She would ignore students and talk in her own world and fail to give a professional level of service. She was incompetent and did not know what work is. She is one of those conservative mousey women with low self-esteem.

They will stand there, spit words out of their mouth and expect you to know it. Teaching staff are rude, shout, talk down to you, they think that its like school where students can be treated like rubbish. Some even start moaning if you on your phone. The whole dynamic of teaching hears autocratic. Less than 50% of students attend classes and when they do they are falling asleep. No one attends seminars because you don't do anything, 'work shy staff'.

They say to students we don't get paid enough and they don't have time for students. When they don't even spend or interact with you in class. Students pay £9,000+ in fees and you don't get your money worth. The lecture model of teaching does not work for a polytechnical university and it clearly shows when attendance and participation fall daily.

Obtaining a degree from this university will reduce your career prospect. You won't get anywhere the quality of outputs of the student are really poor. It is because of the poor quality teaching and experience that students go through.

The teaching staff, half of them are not approachable and have a can't do attitude to work and students. They just ignorer you in class and avoid engagement and bonding with you (not making you feel welcome and easy to talk to).

The so-called "ego Lecturers" here are conservative, brown noes teaching staff who have found the education systems, an industry where there is no customer focus. They want to go to work and do the minimum of work as possible and get away with it.

You will end up as a graduate unemployment statistics and end up in the dole queue. Staffs here are rude, they talk down at you and play mind games. They shout out you, stuck up and don't want to bond or engage with students. They are reserved and have can't do attitude to work. They are not friendly or welcoming to students. They suppress students so they can sit there and talk and students sit there in silence. You don't grow or develop as a student.

The teaching staff are mousey people who have poor communication skills and are poor calibre of people. Staffs are awful, they don't care about you or teach you properly, you don't learn anything. It's a game which they have created where it is how long can you survive to the end. How long can your motivation of learning hold on? so many people get ciffed out, termly and yearly.

A lot of people drop out after a year. There would be more negative reviews but students can't be bothered to write reviews and MMU PR staff are always contacting the provider to move them. I know first hand. That is why google review has so little negative reviews.

The whole culture is anti-student. They have a dysfunctional workforce. Trade unionised and anti-management and staff costing along. The Beecroft report (none fault dismissal) would be much welcome at this organisation by management.

They allow anyone in if you are worried about the grades or if you are slightly off. Drop out rate is high!

By the way, I studied BSc Business Economics and it is very poor and easy. This is due to academic standards are falling due to the poor teaching (Hannah, an economic lecturer is awful) and because the university is trying to keep dropout rates low.

Please don't get sucked in like me. The city and student culture and the environment really suck you in and the fact you are excited to take the next stage in life before you land your dream job. Once the excitement of university goes after the first week or so and the cold sets in!

User

It was not the Metropolitan university - just Manchester university in those long-ago days. There was also the Tech, which was down town, and taught technical stuff, obviously. I am afraid the teaching was not very good - there were crowds of students but hardly any personal contact between staff and students, and I don't think many of the profs and tutors knew me, or at least did not give the impression that they were interested in my progress. Alas! But we all learned from each other - I made several very good and lifelong friends.

I would suggest anybody thinking about studying on the filmmaking course here at MMU to seriously look at other options first. Complete lack of organization, total lack of authority, very scarce practical teaching, bare faced lying, and the fact some lecturers use material direct from slideshare (No... Really!) to run their lectures (remember this is £9000+ pa)... are just a few of the many reasons why I would encourage anybody to think twice about this course..

User

I would not recommend anyone to take the BA (Hons) Marketing Management course. Absolutely poor quality in teaching. I have funished my final year at university, my 3rd year has been the worst. I pay nine thousand pound a year to gain an marketing degree, when i could of sat at home and learnt everything off Google as its the exact same meterial used to teach. Throughout my final year, one of our tutors had to be revoved due to his poor quality in teaching as many students complained ( this tutor was a so called Dr) 🙄This is just some of the reasons why i wouldn't recommend this course.

User

I was really disappointing today with your customer service. I was filling in my application and needed important information about tuition fees. I phoned up the international officer. And was spoken to in a very rude way and eventually didn't get the information I needed to fill in the application.

Unfortunately it has made me think I might not want to apply to a university that provides such poor service to EEA students.
