About Marcelle Seabourne, Artist

I am based in Lincolnshire, working in watercolour, acrylic and oil paints as well as various drawing media and print making. I enjoy a challenge and am always on the look-out for new sources of inspiration. Visit my website for examples of my work.

Marcelle Seabourne, Artist Description

I enjoy the challenge of trying to capture a glimpse, an attitude or a mood. Although much of what I do is representational, I also like to explore the expressive possibilities of abstract art.
I find inspiration from a wide range of different sources, including the natural world, music, people and places.
For figurative projects, I prefer to work directly from the subject, but also use reference photographs as a quick way of collecting visual 'notes'.

Tomorrow is the day we were scheduled to take down the exhibition at Caistor, but as April's and May's shows have had to be cancelled, my pictures will be on the walls for a while yet. As I have to self-isolate at the moment this helps me a lot, but I feel for the artists whose work would have been going on display. The centre is open on a limited basis, so my show is still available to view, in theory.

I'm so grateful for all the help setting up my exhibition at Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre (taking down again on 25th March). Thanks to Peter for making the video!

As many of you will know, my absence from this page has been due to severe illness, eventually diagnosed as malignant melanoma. This is responding well to a new drug therapy, so against the odds, I am now able to return to my art work. Hurray! Here's one of the pictures I'll be putting into an exhibition of my work inspired by landscape and nature in the Caistor Arts and Heritage Centre during March. With the invaluable help of Peter Seabourne I'll be setting up on 26th February. It would be lovely to see you at the 'Meet the Artist' session on Saturday 7th March, 11.30 - 1.30. Drinks and nibbles are provided, or you may like to visit the centre's café. Hope to see you there!

The next Sketching Buildings afternoon at the Heritage Skills Centre, Lincoln Castle is coming up on Wednesday. We will be focusing on using charcoal (not weather-dependent). All are welcome - details from: https://www.lincolncastle.com/sketching-b uildings

If you happen to be in London before the end of the month, there's still time to catch Carre gallery's exhibition of work by Lincolnshire artists in collaboration with London-based artist, Kyle Hawkins. Look out for one of my abstract monoprints in response to Tennyson's moving poem, In Memoriam. Details from https://www.artrabbit.com/events/the-carr e-gallery

First Prize and sold!
I entered this picture (Stormy Evening in acrylic), along with 2 others, for the Blackfriars Open Art Exhibition, Boston - http://blackfriarsartscentre.co.uk/whatso n Not only was it awarded First Prize, but I'm delighted to say, it has a buyer, so will be off to a new home when the exhibition closes on August 8th.

A few images from my first Sketching Buildings session at Lincoln Castle Heritage Skills Centre - some lovely work achieved and the beautiful weather made it all the more enjoyable. Looking forward to next time (August 7th).

I'm getting some sketches together for the Sketching Buildings afternoon this Wednesday at the Heritage Skills Centre, Lincoln Castle - the theme this time will be using pencil. Weather forecast looks promising, so we should have a great time. Really looking forward to it!

I initially shared this watercolour as a work in progress on my Instagram account, so I thought I'd put the finished image on Facebook, as I've not posted anything on here for a while. Having said it's finished, I may still tinker with it...

Here are a couple of recent watercolour paintings. One's of our garden - the forget-me-nots under the apple trees always seem to call to me to paint them - and the other is of ancient woodland on the Lincolnshire Wolds. There ought to be the soundtrack of bird song with this one - chiffchaffs, black caps, woodpeckers, even a tawny owl! It's a lovely spot.

Still time to fill in the Council's online consultation survey...

This was my first time submitting work for the Vivacity Arts Peterborough open art exhibition https://vivacity.org/theatre-arts/art-gal lery/exhibitions/ and it was a pleasant surprise to find out that my 'Forgotten Corner' oil painting had been selected by the judges. The exhibition runs until 26th May in the Museum and Art Gallery, Priestgate.

Yesterday I saw my watercolour of the charming church of Saxby, Lincolnshire seen from Brightwater Gardens for the first time in its new setting. It was bought for a Christmas present from the pictures I had on show in Mrs H's Cafe. I was delighted!

Can't quite believe the idea was even considered let alone put forward seriously!

I'm delighted to say that this drypoint print was selected, along with the two other pictures I submitted, for the Arts for Rutland Rutland Open Art Exhibition. The exhibition, held in the Rutland County Museum, opens today and runs until April 6th.

I saw this expressive medieval carving on a recent visit to the beautiful church of St Mary Redcliffe and wanted to have a go at painting it. Using watercolour on gesso requires a bit of patience to get the pigment to stay where you want it, but the surface effects this gives work well for suggesting carved stone.

This one's a 2nd version of a watercolour sketch, but experimenting with watercolour on acrylic (only small - 18cm x 18cm). The image was brought to mind by the lovely winter light we've been getting recently. I really like the almost theatrical effect from the low sun on features in the landscape.
