On Thursday, Kay and Sarah from the Tommy Godwin Challenge Sportive were chosen to receive the 'team award' from our Marie Curie People Awards. The team at the Tommy Godwin Challenge work very hard preparing for the event and on the day so this is very well deserved! Here they are accepting their certificate and daffodil trophy.

We lost our Mum at 7.30 this morning, just 20 minutes after the Marie Curie nurse left after staying with Mum through the night. Both Marie Curie and Myton at Home have ensured that we could sleep for the last 2 weeks, enabling us to be her day care and enjoy the final days with my Mum. You guys have been amazing at such a sad time. Thank you from all of Cilla 's family xxx

User

We are deeply indebted to the medical and nursing staff and volunteers at the Solihull hospice for the treatment care and support they gave to my step daughter, her husband and children and to the whole family in the final five weeks of her life. Their professionalism kindness and empathy will stay in our hearts and minds for the rest of our days and give comfort to us in our grief.

User

My Dad was diagnosed in April this year with 3 cancers and by July Dad passed away peacefully at home. During this time we had Marie Curie Nurses come in and sit with Dad during the night so we could get some rest. The Nurses were so kind, compassionate and so supportive to us as a family. We cannot thank them enough for there time and dedication.

User

I spent s study day at the Marie curie hospice . I was very impressed , the building itself being open plan . The art work blew me away ,gave me a sense of peace and serenity . I wish I could bring some of this atmosphere to my ward in hospital that I work on. I often wonder how could we improve death and dying in hospital .

User

I lost my mom at 9pm tonight and i thanked nurses before i left for all that they did and some i didnt find i had the names so when what has happened did happen i could message them all and personally thank them and if that doesn't tell you about the hospice then I'll tell you this its the best place to be if your in that situation the care attention and the people that work there from the receptionist the nurses the doctors the workers in the canteen you just cant thank them all enough its a horrible thing to go through but they make them last few weeks as best as they can be anything i can donate to the organisation i will be anything i can do for them i will do couldn't be more thankful to the staff

User

I just don't know what we would do without you. The nurses and SHCA's who visit us are much loved by our family and we will never be able to put into words just how grateful we are and how much you have done and continue doing for us. Thank you all, so much xxxx

User

I have no words to describe how truly grateful I am for the support given to me during this difficult time from the night sitters and the office staff.

I really don’t know what I would of done without them.

User

I can't thank Marie Curie enough. Even fundraising over £1,500 for them doesn't even seem remotely comparable to the things they've done for my family. My grandad had such excellent care in his last few days, the food he had was lovely, all the staff were friendly, and it is such a beautiful place. Apart from all the IV's and wires it felt like we were on holiday. The place was spotless, and nothing was too big of an ask. The nurses were so attentive, and they made sure my grandad was out of pain, and he passed peacefully.

I currently go to bereavement counselling weekly, and the team are absolutely excellent. They were able to see me for counselling as soon as he passed, which is incredible, as I went on the waiting list for NHS counselling, and nearly 3 months on, I still haven't heard anything. Marie Curie have been my saving grace, and have offered me so much support. I am forever grateful for the counselling team, as it's all voluntary and they are all so caring. I suffered with extremely bad PTSD after losing my grandad, but Marie Curie have helped me through it every step of the way, and even though they couldn't save my grandad - they saved me. Before, I truly couldn't see how I could be happy or continue to live my life after he passed, and now I'm moving in huge leaps and bounds - all thanks to Marie Curie. <3

User

I can never thank Marie Curie enough.

The kindness, compassion, care, from every member of staff was incredible.

I never felt like I had to 'guard' my mother, unlike in hospital.

Thank you, each and everyone of you from my heart XX

User

From myself and family would like to personally thank all the staff at Marie Curie, Solihull for all your care for my dad Tony who sadly lost his battle to a brain tumour today. From the bottom of our hearts thank you for all your care and kindness xx

User

Cant begin to tell you how wonderful all the staff are there. My dad had the fortunate experience of spending his last few months there. From the minute he was admitted to the minute he took his last breath he was treated amazingly. The cleaners would clean his room but also stop and chat and have a laugh and joke with him. Kitchen staff are second to none, always made sure he had his custard, and on my birthday a few days before he died, they brought me in a cake and candles and a lovely card so I could have my last birthday with my Dad.Doctors and Nurses , I can not thank you all enough, Thank you Marie Curie xxx

User

Cannot put into words what a wonderful place Marie curie hospice is, I myself had never been in a hospice and it certainly wasn't what I imagined it to be, so peaceful , beautiful gardens and such caring staff who are there whenever you need them. I can't thank you enough for the care my Dad received and also the care towards ourselves . Just a short 2 days my dad was there before he sadly passed away but you have all made a massive impact in our lives . Thankyou x
