I have spent pretty much 18 hours a day in my office for the last 4 days getting the website etc up and running in anticipation of the download.
We are really pleased with how the programme is developing. Please stop by and tell us what you think of the website trailer.
... www.throughmarkslens.com
We wanted to create something of course about photography but this programme is so much more than that. I have had an amazing 10 years chasing the good weather around Iceland and have spent well over a year of my life travelling around this stunning country in search of good light.
The programme is about how to... Hire your car from the best company. Clothing The best hotels to stay. Where to eat. How to keep check of the weather. How to keep check of the roads. How to drive in Iceland. Where not to drive. How to respect the fragile eco system of Iceland. The best places to shoot and at what times. The equipment I use. Meeting some of my Icelandic friends including Brusi the Icelandic farm dog. And so much more.
We really hope you enjoy it.

I have been running some free NiSi filters workshops on the south coast for a few years now but I'm often asked if I will ever do any further north. May the 25th - 26th 2019 at St Mary's lighthouse, Whitley bay myself and Wayne Brittle will be running free NiSi filter workshop and now the workshops will also feature Fotopro tripods. A brand I have been using for the last 18 months and have been so impressed with. My favourite tripods by far. These spaces fill fast so if you would like to join us.

I have just returned from Portugal. Had a fantastic week with a great mate Alan Fletcher shooting the stunning Portuguese coastline. Sunset, Ursa beach on the west coast. Not the easiest to get down to from the 140metre elevation of the cliffs and very steep at times but you know it makes sense :-) This was my first time at this beach and it is already right up there with my favourite locations in the world. Last week I had the pleasure of joining Nikon School on a Nikon & NiSi workshop.
The guys at Nikon school UK are big fans of the NiSi filter system (they use it for their own work) and highly recommend it to the clients on their workshops.
The workshop was at Portland Bill, Dorset, England.... The day started with strong winds and heavy rain so the workshop began at the hotel where the head tutor for Nikon gave a great demonstration on the benefits of using the NiSi system and why he uses it. The weather improved dramatically by lunchtime so the group were headed for the coast. It was still very windy with some heavy showers but the biggest problem was the sea spray. This though is where NiSi filters are so obviously better. They clean so easily. NiSi filters combined with the NiSi cleaning cloths are so easy to clean. The sea spray just wipes straight off without leaving any residue. Of course this is something I am very familiar with. I have run dozens of workshops in the photographer's paradise Iceland where the winds are strong and the sea spray is plentiful. No other brand of filter cleans anywhere near as easily as the NiSi kit.
My time was spent going from client to client with a big bag of filter holders and filters making sure the guys had the right filters for each situation. As always when I run NiSi workshops the feedback is always so positive. With it being so windy the clouds were moving quite fast so the group had a great time using the 6 and 10 stop ND filters for a bit of creativity. Portland has a plethora of different subjects to shoot but the full NiSi GND line up had a filter for every occasion.
I really enjoyed my time with the group and the Nikon school guys. I was very impressed by the way they had organised the workshop and their understanding of landscape photography and how to get the best from it using the NiSi system. It goes without saying that their technical knowledge of the full Nikon range is second to none.
I will be joining Nikon school again in the early new year for another joint Nikon/NiSi workshop and we plan to do more throughout 2019.

Sunrise at Godafoss, north east Iceland. It was minus 12 degrees this cold March morning and there was a bit of a breeze so the wind chill made it feel quite a bit colder. I wanted to keep some texture in the water (as I pretty much always do with waterfalls) so just went with a 3 stop ND to slow things down and a 2 stop medium GND to balance the exposure in a single shot. Wow, where to start? I travelled quite a distance to get to Iceland with the hopes of an Aurora view and was gutted to see the weather was against me with cloud cover all over the island. I just cannot credit Mark enough for his commitment to getting me the shot! Whether it be 21 hour days or waking up in the middle of the night and driving me 2 hours to the only break in the cloud. He was fantastic and never once turned away an opportunity for a shot because of a long drive or sleepless night!!

I can say for sure if it wasn't for his attitude or commitment, the weather being what it was, I for sure would not have got my much coveted aurora shot.

Not only is he a knowledgeable tutor, always available for advise, but also a fantastic tour guide of Iceland, with years of experience and contacts in all the right places!

I cannot recommend him enough!!

We spent an amazing week, with our great guide Mark Andreas Jones all over Iceland. The plan to follow the weather worked out brilliantly! It almost feels like Mark is icelandic to the core, he lives and breathes Iceland on his trips, he nows the island by heart and gives You the absolute best chances on unforgetable images. Thanks a lot Mate, for this great experience!!! See you on the next great trip!!!

Spent a week with Mark Andreas Jones and another 3 photographers in Iceland and what a fantastic week it turned out to be. Mark has unrivalled knowledge of the country which together with his excellent coaching skills make challenging images attainable. On top of that he is a top bloke who his only want is for his clients to return home happy with their images. I can't recommend his workshops enough.

Just back from a very tough tour weather wise, but if you are going to Iceland, you need to know and respect the environment, and Mark's knowledge of the island, it's locations and weather possibilities makes him the ideal tour manager. Nothing was too much trouble - even dug the car out of the ditch!!

Don't bother looking elsewhere, Mark is your man.

I was planning a winter trip to Iceland when I heard about Mark's tours. Knowing Iceland's weather can be extreme and a little dangerous at this time of year (and indeed it was at times), Mark's experience and knowledge took us beyond the norm to get to the locations by following the weather to get shots we were after. Mark probably knows Iceland better than he knows the UK so what more is there to say really! I, for one, am hoping to go on another tour with Mark in the future.

I have always wanted to go to Iceland to photograph it's amazing scenery so when a place became available on Mark Andreas Jones's photo tour Feb 11th - 18th 2016, I jumped at the chance. Mark has spent many dedicated years getting to know Iceland and it's communities intimately. As a pro photographer he has got to know most photo opportunities the island has to offer and there are new surprises every day. He has built a large list of warmly accommodating contacts on the island who he shares genuine friendship and mutual respect with. Iceland's weather is extremely changeable and Mark's ability to arrange appropriate accommodation and adjust planning at the drop of a hat provided maximum photo shoots outwitting the mercurial nature that is Iceland. I can honestly say that it was one of the best weeks of my life, I haven't laughed so much in ages with a set of really great people. The proof of the pudding though is in the harvest of images captured and I for one and delighted with the bounty I achieved. I am eternally grateful to Mark, for his self less efforts, hard work and truly inspirational service. Now saving my pennies for the next time!
