Marquee Norwich Description

The Marquee Norwich as you see it pictured, re-opened its doors after an extensive re-refurbishment in June 2012, opening night on 25th November 2012

When we arrived at the pub for the first time, we found a sorry looking building, in need of some TLC

We cleaned, fixed, replaced and rebuilt most of the surface parts of the building. With a new bar, new toilets, stripped floors, re-carpeted the upstairs, fixed open drain in back room to remove the smell of the drains.

We replaced a flat roof on the back room & Toilets, re replaced the archway, in the front bar which was falling down, we repaired the front of the building which was falling off, due to a collapsed drain.

We spend thousands on the place, with nearly £8, 000 on sound proofing alone, taking all the wooden windows & doors, archways pout of the back room and replacing with sound proofing and brick.

We sealed the back room, by bricking up problem windows and lininig the roofs with sound proofing, we even found a room which we had not known about for several months, which was 3 meters square.

We were helped by locals, band members, friends and family.

The building was painted with murals, artwork and items of interest found in the store rooms.

We replaced all the cellar systems, the bar pumps, fridges and made the whole place ready to function.

We had many great gigs, most notable being the Barb Wire Dolls, who filled the place, despite there being 6 punk gigs on in Norwich on the same night.

Over the next few months we will add more stories, going into every detail about the venue While James W N Miles was Landlord.

The stories of good & bad, of fun and frolics and we will share with you the truth about how "The Marquee" became The Owl Sanctuary and why it ultimately will have to close its doors.
