About Marquis Of Granby Alkham

It's a strikingly contemporary restaurant with rooms.

Marquis Of Granby Alkham Description

Come on in. Take a look around. You might just be surprised. For while the Alkham Valley, indeed Alkham village itself, suggests genteel old England at its most rural and unspoiled, the Marquis itself is something else. . .

It's a strikingly contemporary restaurant with rooms. The product of a major renovation in 2008, what was once the village's pub, The Marquis of Granby, has been utterly transformed. Space, light, fine furnishings and beautiful fabrics – the opportunity to fine tune every detail hasn't been missed.

The restaurant is a revelation. Head Chef's seasonally inspired and locally sourced menus are as fresh as they are imaginative, and the elegant 21st century styling is exceptional.

Queen sized pocket sprung beds are swathed in the finest cotton. Sumptuous fabrics dress windows and chairs. And an eclectic collection of art completes the mood, the mix and the personality that makes this place unique.

Chic boutique hotel in the heart of the English countryside? You've found it. You've arrived.

We had our wedding here a few days ago. What can I say, the staff went above and beyond for us. It’s was only me my new husband and our 4 children there at the ceremony and I’d like to say a special thank you to the two amazing staff members Tracy and Lesley for being our witnesses. I can not thank you and your staff enough for what was an amazing , perfect and stress free day. Would highly recommend.

This was a gorgeous place to come for Sunday lunch. I warned them of my food intolerances in advance and they catered well for me - really helpful. The food tasted great and looked beautiful too. The decor was tasteful and contemporary.

The experience was bordering on excellent but there were a few silly things that wouldn’t have happened in the best restaurants. I had a chipped side plate which was only replaced when I pointed it out. One of the grapes on the (incredibly tasty) cheese and biscuits was really moldy, and the cutlery given to us for cheese and biscuits was a fork and spoon! I am looking forward to returning and taking friends, but I really hope they address the quality control.

User

Terrific stay, Friendly and staff, great room as well.

Fabulous dinner in the restaurant last night and a splendid breakfast.

Highly recommended.

Spent a weekend in one of the cottages - the old stable. Perfect location for pure relaxation. We took our dog who loved the large garden. We had an evening meal in the restaurant which was definitely 5 star. Staff are all welcoming, friendly and very attentive. Highly recommend this place.

User

Great service, lovely lady waitress was great with our kids and made them feel very special, even though it was my wifes birthday. Highly recommend

User

Fantastic food and incredible service , the girls that waited on us where excellent and very attentive. The lady with the glasses was lovely and we had another girl that was very nice too .

Breakfast was delicious, the lady that checked us out was a little scary .

User

Been about four times...never any issues, always really well cooked food, great staff!!!

User

Absolutely delicious!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 course lunch yesterday sitting on the terrace in the sun. Service was prompt and friendly! Loved the beetroot and goats cheese mousse along with the fish and samphire. We will definitely return and can recommend it for any special lunch or dinner!

User

We stayed their for our first anniversary, the gentleman that checked just in was lovely- James. Very smiley too! We booked the collard room, lovely room only nit picky thing was the light fitting was hanging broken off the ceiling- still worked! Shampoo, soap and hand lotion provided, however conditioner would of been helpful. Brilliant coffee machine and homemade biscuits 😊

We booked the 4 course tasting menu, we were lucky enough to be served by James again, very good at his job and enjoyed his hospitality. The food was amazing, the lamb as to die for and the desserts were out of this world- get job to the kitchen team! Breakfast was a little of let down- not the food it's self, it was the staff, due to having James the evening before, clearly the bar was set! We had a young man, not fully trained or confident I would say. Also the bathroom facilities are clearly not clean in the morning, no loo roll or any clean hand towels! Little dog eared with paint work! Random wrong coloured paint in areas to hide the scuffs. Could do with a full refresh.

User

Really beautiful little place. Came here with my mother in law for afternoon tea. Tea was superb and a lovely selection of food/cakes. Scones were delicious! Staff were friendly and attentive. Dining area was bright and airy and yet still cosy and welcoming. Only negative was that there were no baby changing facilities for my 6 month old and I had to use a sofa as I have back problems and couldn't kneel on the floor. Please consider installing a wall mounted one in the disabled toilet as this would be the only thing holding me back from visiting again and recommending it to friends etc!

User

My partner and I stayed there on Friday night. Made to feel very welcome on arrival. Our room was lovely, clean and warm, as was the bathroom.

We had the four course taster menu dinner which was delicious.

The continental breakfast was a little disappointing-not enough choice-but more than enough cereals etc., Our hot breakfast was really lovely although we would have liked a 2nd coffee to be offered. No big deal though.

My only criticism was that the lounge was really cold! Despite the bitterly cold night, no-one lit the fire or switched on the radiators so we couldn’t relax there after dinner.

The staff were very pleasant and attentive - just the right level of service IMO.

We will be back.

My husband surprised me for our wedding anniversary . We stayed in the collard room . My husband booked online . When he booked on line it asked if he would like to Oder a single red rose to be in our room . He paid £7.50 . When we arrived there was no rose . The receptionist when he enquired did not know about this option online . Maybe this needs to be checked . He could of chose from a bouquet of flowers , a single rose of choloclates .

The food was delicious . Pudding was to die for

User

My husband booked this as part of my Christmas present and it certainly lived up to expectations. The staff were extremely quick and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The 4 course taster menu was beautifully presented, well balanced and totally delicious. I hope the chef will stay for a long time! Our room was very comfortable and well appointed and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time and will return.

User

Had a lovely afternoon tea here. Would have liked to have been offered another pot of tea as 1 pot between the two of us wasn't enough. As we had had it bought for us as a gift we didn't ask for a 2nd pot. Cakes were lovely, sandwiches ok. Venue very nice.

User

Lovely evening meal and breakfast. Staff all great, stayed in the suite which ultimately disappointed. It was a hot night and we needed the windows open, the road was noisy outside. The mattress seemed past it's best and the pillows lumpy. The suite was very expensive and didn't represent good value for money.

User

A little disappointing afternoon tea. The food was good but a small portion. Service average. Probably wouldn't return for afternoon tea

User

We had lunch here for my godmothers 70th bday. As it’s Michelin star I expected a wonderful meal. It was like warm(the food was not hot), mediocre pub grub at best and the portions were very small. I would not recommend this restaurant nor would I return. Very disappointed.

User

This was highly recommended by a friend who gave my husband a £100 voucher for a birthday treat .

A disappointing check in , receptionist not very friendly and seemed uninterested as she did on the phone during two previous call made by my self .

We were taken to a room , I am still wondering what was deluxe about it, the room was tired carpet worn, and general cleanliness poor, the room was hot and the air conditioner unit noisy and insufficient .

No mirror near a socket for drying your hair .

We went down to ask for afternoon tea as suggested on information left in room , to be told there was not enough for any more than were already booked, so why suggest it on info left on bed .

They did however give us a sandwich and cake but tea never arrived .

Evening meal was good !

Breakfast continental table poor selection uncovered and a there were a couple of flies hovering .

No veggie breakfast option and alternative had a £3 supplement , which I said I was not prepared to pay as we were in a package room , dinner and breakfast and they were not offering a veggie breakfast , which they agreed.

However the two young girls during bar services , dinner and breakfast were very smiley, happy, attentive and very professional, perhaps management should take some lessons from them.

Won't be back or recommend it !

Me and my 3 friends booked for a 'Festive' afternoon tea on the 23rd and unfortunately were all incredibly disappointed. The tea came out and we had to chase the waitress for milk as it was forgotten.. We then waited nearly 40 minutes for our sandwiches and cakes to come out, which then meant our tea was then cold! The waitress didn't explain what any of the cakes were, they were simply placed on our table without as much as an 'enjoy'.. We never got offered anything remotely 'festive', such as mulled wine or a glass of fizz with our cakes which was a shame as it was what we had booked for! A waiter which was looking after another table noticed we had no tea left and very kindly brought us some fresh pots. I must say he was lovely and was very attentive to his tables in comparison to our waitress! We were then left with dirty plates in front of us for over an hour.. No one came over and asked if we would like more tea, we were just left alone whilst all the other tables were served. We had to chase for the bill, which was then wrong as we discovered we had in fact been charged for a festive afternoon tea when we got nothing of the sort! We didn't even get an apology when we brought this up to our waitress. We then again had to chase someone for the card machine in order to pay! I will say the sandwiches and cakes were nice which was the only positive thing about our experience. I had dined at the Marquis previously and was extremely satisfied with the service provided, which made this visit incredibly disappointing. The service was appalling and regrettably I will not be returning or recommending your establishment to friends and family.
