Did you know that MKUH holds a Breastfeeding Clinic on the Postnatal ward every morning with the Infant Feeding Specialist Midwife? We talk about all aspects of Breastfeeding including what is normal and when to get additional help or support. #MKbreastfeeds

We work closely with MaternityMK (https://www.facebook.com/maternityMK) (sometimes known as the MVP Maternity Voices Partnership). As their Facebook page says, they are 'a group of people involved in planning, providing and receiving maternity care, including local parents'. Their role is to make sure that our local maternity services listen to and take account of the views and experiences of people who use their maternity services. At their most recent meeting they asked their stakeholders what would be useful to appear on our page. We are working with MaternityMK to populate this page with information that YOU say is useful and helpful to you. If you have any thoughts on what you would like to see on this page we would be very happy to hear from you.

As part of National Breastfeeding Week, did you know that the first milk produced is called Colostrum and has many benefits? Colostrum has everything the baby needs for the first few days of life. It's completely unique to you and your baby - isn't that amazing? #MKbreastfeeds

A lovely review from NHS Choices on the care at MKUH. Please submit your reviews on this site www.nhs.uk or post here. We would love to hear from you.
WONDERFUL CARE After a very positive labour experience, wonderfully supported by a calm & encouraging midwife our situation changed rapidly due to my uterus not contracting properly post-partum. Without hesitation the midwife responded and within seconds our room was filled with clinical staff all working to stop my haemorrha...ge. Even in this potentially dangerous & frightening situation, everyone present was calm & focused and they kept me informed of everything they were doing. Within minutes the bleeding was under control and I was happily enjoying skin-to-skin with my newborn.
Immediately after this, it became clear that myself & my baby had a pre-existing infection. A course of IV antibiotics was prescribed for us both which unfortunately meant we were committed to a lengthy stay on the Maternity Ward- not what any parents are hoping/planning for. But I can honestly say that every single person on Wards 9 & 10 have been so supportive each day, looking after my baby with patience, care & regular monitoring and ensuring I was coping myself with the long stay away from my toddler which has made things particularly hard. They have turned a nightmare situation into one which has been much easier to bear in the circumstances. As a consequence our baby is thriving and has responded well to treatment & we are able to leave days earlier than planned. We are especially grateful to the midwives who organised a side-room for us to stay in to allow us our own space & privacy due to the length of our stay- this was so important to us, we cannot thank you enough! How lucky we are to have access to facilities and care of this standard, we cannot fault a single thing- thank you so much.

Lovely post for IDM2018:
Almost 22 months ago, I turned up at a hospital to be induced. I had no idea really what that would entail. I had been up to the hospital at least 20 times since the start of my pregnancy with reduced movement, bleeding, 'you've got a fattie in there' measurement scans, consultant appointments.
Every single time I went- I was greeted by a warm, sympathetic and reassuring face.

Super excited to tell you that we have a breastfeeding clinic for new parents on Wards 9 and 10. The morning clinic is the brainchild of Michelle Hancock, our Infant Feeding Specialist Midwife. All new mums and dads currently on the wards and NNU are invited to come along for advice and support on breastfeeding. Michelle says: ‘The feedback has been excellent so far. Encouraging new mums and dads to come along means that they can share experiences and ask questions in a social, supportive and relaxed environment.’
