Matlock Meadows Description

Matlock Meadows Ice Cream parlour is located on Masson Farm overlooking the historic spa town of Matlock approximately half a mile from the town centre, being close to the main A6 trunk road – a major tourist route from the East Midlands area to the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District National Park. The 200 acre limestone farm overlooks Matlock and the Derwent valley with panoramic views extending towards Bakewell and Chatsworth. Many local attractions are within close proximity such as Peak Rail, the Heights of Abraham, Gullivers Kingdom and Matlock Bath. One of the most scenic walks in Derbyshire, The Limestone Way passes through the farm before meandering through the heart of Derbyshire amongst the Dales of the White Peak towards Edale in the North of the county.

Having tasted some fantastic ice cream on a trip to Italy combined with a love of real dairy ice cream gave us the inspiration to make our own ice cream using the high quality milk produced by our own dairy herd. With the help of an RDPE grant from the East Midlands Development Agency we have been able to build an ice cream parlour on the farm to make and sell our own ice cream. Our real dairy ice cream is hand made on the farm using fresh milk from the farms dairy herd. Locally sourced fresh ingredients when available and the finest natural ingredients from around the world are used to create interesting flavours of ice cream.

The Dakin family has been milking cows here since 1930 when the tenancy of the farm was first taken over. The farm is a working dairy farm with the current dairy herd consisting of 90 Holstein Friesian cows, producing approximately 550, 000 litres of milk per year.

Our plans are still ongoing but we also aim to build a viewing gallery within the farm to allow visitors to see a real working dairy farm from a safe area.
