About Mandy
My name is Mandy Atkinson, MBACP, and I am a BACP accredited counsellor practicing in Hadlow near Tonbridge in Kent. I provide counselling and psychotherapy in order to help people through difficult situations in their lives, in the same way I received support myself. I believe that everyone has the ability through their own inner resources to resolve their own issues and the problems they face. I see my role as one who helps get in touch with those resources in the therapeutic process.
I am an experienced counsellor and therapist, and an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellor and Psychotherapists ( BACP). Through my practice I work with a wide and diverse range of people of all ages. I work with clients individually and I also work with couples and groups. I provide counselling too for adolescents and children.

Why people come
Life events such as a crisis or a sudden change of life circumstances can lead you to come. Counselling can help come to terms with what has happened to you and discover a way of moving on with your life.
Some come because they have been experiencing anxiety to the extent that it prevents them leading their day to day lives and they do not really understand why they feel anxious. We work together to really understand what you are experiencing and learn through working to manage your anxiety.
Many come to see me because they have difficulties in their relationships that they would like to improve. Work on relationships can be done with individuals or with couples. Sometimes relationships end abruptly or the ending is being considered and exploring your thoughts, feelings and emotions helps. Some people come with depression, anxiety and phobias. Alternatively, it
might be that you need counselling to help you through a major loss in your life such as the passing of a loved one or the ending of a relationship. Learning to work through a confusing array of thoughts, feelings and emotions can be the start of learning to grieve for your loss through your therapy with me.

For others, they come because they feel stuck and have reached an impasse – a feeling that they are not able to live their life in a way that they would like to and would like to move on with their life.

How counselling might help
Counselling sessions with me offers the time and space for you to talk and offers the opportunity to be listened to by someone who really hears what you have to say. A safe place where you can be yourself and explore the thoughts, feelings and emotions that you are experiencing. Gaining a greater understanding and self awareness can often be the first steps towards making positive change.

You would usually attend sessions once a week which offers the time to consider the difficulties that you are having. Counselling aims to help you find your own way forward and allow you to be your authentic self.
