Max Edwards Music Description
Max has been performing, recording & producing music for more than half his life, initially on the guitar, then after a few years also taking up bass & percussion. His other musical interests include live sound production, DJing & producing dance music, and recording engineering.
Max's first experience as a paid musician was as a teenager playing guitar & occasionally bass in a hard-working ceilidh band! (Being classically trained on the guitar, he adapted easily to performing the fast complex melodies of this type of music. ) He has been gigging on and off ever since, journeying through folk, blues, vintage rock, funk, electronic, psychedelic and reggae, and performing at festivals & local venues.
Other guitarist roles have included the highly successful York jazz-funk outfit Mukesh (1996-98), and Brighton's acclaimed Shifty (2001-2004).
During 1999 Max completed a DJing tour of Europe with highlights including headlining on a Saturday night at the enormous Roxy in Prague.
Since landing in Brighton Max has established himself as an inventive, solid and energetic guitarist & bass player, injecting a relentless funky throb into countless wild jam parties and improvised festival gigs.
Max is a founder member of the long-running Brighon Jams and Jam Central nights, playing both guitar and bass and spearheading a drive towards fully improvised party-centric gigs in local venues and festivals such as Concorde 2 and Out Of The Ordinary. These events attracted top-class musicians from across the city and beyond. Recordings and history of these events and gigs can be found at www. brightonjams.com.
Ongoing project The Tracks (www. facebook.com/brightontracks) sees Max teaming up with long-time musical associates Tom Scott & Ben Beasley to create a driving instrumental power trio aimed squarely at the dancefloor.
Max has spent the last year playing wild vintage monosynth with the Weapons Of Mass Seduction (www. facebook.com/wseduction), producing their first EP, and performing with them at various festivals. 2014 looks set to be another good year for festivals with this fantastic band.
Most recently Max has joined Multijam (www. facebook.com/multijambattlejam), creation of champion scratch DJ JFB (www. facebook.com/pages /JFB /43664287875). Multijam brings together a fully improvised band with live sampling & virtuoso scratch skills!
Max can sometimes be seen when the sun is out busking on the streets of Brighton, looping up his guitar to create infectious reggae grooves : -)
