The Mayhew School of Dance & Performing Arts has been providing outstanding training in the performing arts since 1941. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and approachable school with high standards and an outstanding teaching faculty. Dance classes are available for all ages and abilities in Ballet, Modern, Tap, Classical Greek, and National, as well as supplementary dance classes in Street, Jazz, and Limbering. We have four drama classes - Mayhew Munchkins, Mayhew Monkeys, Mayhew Masters and a Shakespeare class. Students may also take Musical Theatre & Singing classes. For pre-school children, we run both Baby Ballet and Baby Bop classes. The Mayhew School is one of the longest established dance schools in Northampton. Since its inception, it has been responsible for training and producing dancers of the highest calibre. Past pupils have gone on to work as dancers, teachers and examiners for many of the worlds leading classical companies and dance organisations. The school was founded in 1941 by Miss Mollie Mayhew, initially with just five pupils. Her first classes were held in Northampton at the Manchester Unity Hall. At the Mayhew School of Dance & Performing Arts, we teach RAD ballet through a wide range of classes for all ages and abilities. Our tuition ranges from teaching complete beginners to professional private tuition for those who are wishing to take examinations or compete. Modern classes cover all aspects of this exciting genre from lyrical & jazz through to contemporary, blues and commercial styles. Graded classes teach the building blocks of the style with both limbering and strengthening exercises alongside fun dance movements including isolations, turns, kicks and leaps. Pupils are entered for ISTD examinations at all levels from Primary to Advanced 2.
