The Monies raised by the 'Mayor of Bournemouth's Charity Shop' during the current Mayor's tenure in office (2018 - 2019) will be donated to:
'The Bournemouth Leukaemia Fund'
Bournemouth Leukaemia Fund was set up in 1984 by the late Professor Terry Hamblin and Professor David Oscier to support the Royal Bournemouth Hospital's Molecular Haematology & Oncology Research Laboratory.
... Now managed by Doctors Helen McCarthy and Renata Walewska, the scientists working in our Laboratory have gained world-wide recognition and their gound-breaking work is helping patients with all cancers to receive faster and less intrusive diagnosis and treatment. This often removes the need for biopsy and uses the patient's DNA by way of a blood test for diagnosis and treatment plan.
The Bournemouth Leukaemia Fund is supported by the Friends of Bournemouth Leukaemia Fund, a small committee of local volunteers who organise fundraising social activities and also seek support and funding from local businesses and the wider community in Bournemouth and beyond.

The New Mayor of Bournemouth (2018 - 2019), Councillor Derek Borthwick:
Councillor Derek Borthwick was born in Chiswick, London. One of three boys, his twin and their older brother have both since passed away.
Derek first visited his grandmother’s home in Bournemouth in Easter 1936, and during the War he and his brothers were evacuated there whilst their father served in the Royal Air Force and their mother protected the family home in London.
