Michelle of MB Sports Therapy is a Chartered Sports Therapist holding a BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy Health and Fitness in (2009) and MSc Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation (2015) from the University of Kent.
MB Sports Therapy has two clinics one at Rush Fitness Southend, and one in Benfleet and can offer home visits at an extra charge within the area of South East Essex.
Michelle has 7 years experience of working with a broad range of clients from fitness professionals to individuals with general aches and pains, and can offer injury assessment, diagnosis and treatment with a follow up plan if required within an hour sessions.

ππTHE IMPORTANCE OF A NEUTRAL SPINEππ Over the next coming weeks I will be reviewing types of posture. Posture is extremely overlooked in daily life. A huge number of my clients sit at work desks for 8 hours per day or complete manual labour jobs both placing pressure on the body/posture.
The Kyphotic Spine -This usually arises from poor posture when sitting and standing in a flexed position. ... This position can cause: - shoulder, chest and neck stiffness- these muscles will become short and tight - unable to stabilise the spine - Loss of range of movement - Compromise ability to breathe efficiently- diaphragm becomes compressed - Numbness and tinglingβ due to internal rotation and forward collapsed position - Head extends away from the body- leading to neck pain and headaches - When sitting down your lower body deactivates- glutes - Lower back pain- with the glutes turned off- lumbar spine collapses creating a compression on the lower discs. - Jaw Pain

ππTHE IMPORTANCE OF THE CORE STABILITY MUSCLES.
Core stability is often overlooked. I speak about core stability on a daily basis to most of my clients especially those that are suffering with acute/chronic lower back pain. I cannot emphasise enough how much core stability is linked with spinal stability. The abdominal muscles ie: 6 pack is NOT the core stabilising muscles as most would believe. The core stabilising muscles are located in the centre of the body and help to s...tabilise the hips/shoulders, trunk and torso. They include the transverse abdominis, rectus abdominis, internal and external obliques, the pelvic floor, multifidus, erector spinae and the diaphragm. These muscles also help to transfer forces from the upper and lower body as well as reducing excessive loads on the spine. Those who have a strong core will have good posture, better balance, improved movement and are less likely to become injured.

Body pump time ππΌπͺπΌ Due to juggling work and baby I havenβt been in the gym that much. This is going to hurt π.
I see this a lot with many of my clients. We all tend to abuse the body physically and mentally meaning that we are unable to work and perform at the best of our ability.
Take care of the body you only get this chance once, make it happen, strive to achieve your dreams/goals, surround yourself with positive people, complete daily mobility, yoga/stretching, deep tissue massage, self massage techniques to help improve your performance and daily life.

πππThe Benefits of using RICE on sprains and strains
A sprain is a injury whereby the ligaments or capsule around the joint becomes torn. A strain is an injury involving the muscles or tendons. Both sprains and strains can be treated immediately with the use of Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.
REST- Stop the activity immediately along with resting of the injured area to help prevent further injury. Although rest is advised it is beneficial to keep the joint/area moving ...within a comfortable range to prevent further stiffening. ICE- ice packs, cooling methods can be used for up to 20 minutes at a time to help reduce inflammation around the area if any has appeared, pain is also reduced due to the ice causing a numbing affect around the area. When using ice packs make sure that there is protection between the skin and the ice pack. COMPRESSION- can keep swelling under control this can include the use of a bandage. ELEVATE- raise the affected area above the heart to help reduce swelling/pain/discomfort
