Foxy Loxy is getting more and more clever. This week we’ve lost one of our precious rare breed chickens after the fox worked out how to open a door. Last night, Tom cockerel was dragged out of a small air vent probably as he was defending the ladies.
The battle is on to keep it out and keep our other girls safe.
We have a very old rescue lady who is struggling to take care of the basics now, so Megan gave her a helping hand with her dust bath 🛀 .... meanwhile the others queue up for the best spot on the dust bath beach!
The ladies have a swanky new (totally fox invincible) pad and seem to be very grateful! So many eggs for us today. Hopefully some new ladies coming soon as we now have plenty of space .
Beware neighbours with chickens - we’ve had a predator, more than likely a fox, in this morning who has very sadly killed 4 of our ladies and terrified the rest who were found hiding in various nooks and crannies.
Apologise to our egg customers, our offerings are likely to be diminished until we get some more chickens. — feeling sad.
Clever chicken.....every day she breaks into the dog garden and enjoys the drops from the bird feeder...the rest of the flock, still in the chicken garden not so clever!!
It’s been a while since we posted and much has happened in the chicken garden. We’ve lost a few of our ladies and fostered many more, but the one consistent aspect is the space our chickens have to be organic and free range, including up the drive, in the trees, over the fence into the dog garden and stealing my tomato’s off the vine. They truly live the good life and produce marvellous eggs as our reward 😊
We’d never buy another pack of eggs from a caged hen and this graphic illustrates why more than my words possibly could 👍
Very pleased to see our loyal customers recycling egg boxes with us week after week. This one has been through 7 different cycles of use. Now that’s recycling at its best!!
The ladies are laying loads of eggs and we have plenty of boxes available. Just made a lemon meringue pie from scratch with the eggs and it doesn’t look too shabby
We are delighted to announce the arrival of a new man in the ladies lives. Tom Cockerel, named by meg after Tom Thornton, was rescued today from Wood Green Animal Sanctuary, and is already making an impression! Another gorgeous white Silkie, although Charlie will always be our first special silkie cockerel.
Today we said goodbye to our very handsome Charlie Boy Cockerel. He will be very sadly missed by all the girls and all the humans. He had a long and very happy life surrounded by his women and free ranging until his heart was content. RIP Charlie Boy xx
Merry Christmas everyone and thank you to all our customers
