About Melanoma Fund

We educate and raise awareness on melanoma and other forms of cancer via three national prevention campaigns: Watch Your Back! , the Outdoor Kids Sun Safety and Slip! Slap! Swing!

Melanoma Fund Description

To raise awareness, educate, prevent and find a cure for melanoma

The Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund is a national melanoma dedicated charity based in East Grinstead. Our aim is to educate on the importance of prevention, raise awareness of the need of early detection and fund medical research to help find a cure to ensure melanoma is eradicated.

Outdoor Kids Sun Safety Code
We are the only charity in the UK working closely with a wide number of NGB’s and outdoor organisations to help challenge existing sun protection habits in adults and develop healthy habits in children. (These will be expanded and developed with our new strategy) Visit www. oksunsafetycode. co. uk for further details.

Watch Your Back!
We work closely with horticulturists to raise awareness of melanoma in older men, especially gardeners who love being outdoors! Visit www. menlanoma-fund. co. uk /wyb / for further details

Melanoma Patient Conference UK 2019 was a great success with lots of amazing speakers, inspiring patients and wider members of the melanoma community coming together to better understand this deadly form of skin cancer. We hope you got to chat to Michelle Baker who attended, representing the Melanoma Fund. Thanks to Imogen Cheese for organising. We will be writing a report next week...

Steve Houseman died from metastatic melanoma less than three weeks ago, which started from a small pimple on the side of his foot. He was only 50.
A committed football coach and Liverpool FC supporter, his club is organising a football tournament for the Steve Houseman Cup, which will be an annual event, to raise money for the Melanoma Fund.
His sister Jane has set up a JustGiving page (see below). Please share to help make this a great legacy.

This ties in nicely with our Slip! Slap! Swing! sun protection campaign for golf, although it’s interesting reading for anyone who likes to spend lots of time outdoors.

New research on why outdoor workers need to cover up when working. "In the summer the desire to get a tan was high among workers, with many exposing themselves to UV radiation deliberately, increasing their risk of developing skin cancer"
