Melbec Microbiology Ltd specialise in the following divisions: cosmetics, personal care, household, biocidal, antimicrobial testing (including textiles, wound treatments & dressings) & clinical.

MelBec was formed in 2013 by 3 partners, who have a combined total expertise of over 50 years in our specialist divisions.

We are strongly committed to working closely with our clients to provide rigorous, appropriate testing which inevitably leads to meaningful outcomes. This allows our clients to improve or validate the performance of their products, achieve compliance and gain a competitive advantage over their competitors.

Our main areas of expertise are:

Clinical Microbiology - under the directorship of Professor Valerie Edwards-Jones. Val has many years’ experience in both hospital microbiology departments and academic institutions, latterly Manchester Metropolitan University. Her current areas of interest are contract research for wound care technologies, developing biofilm models and providing independent support for clinical trials. Val has an unwavering enthusiasm for all things microbiological.

The other areas covered by MelBec Microbiology Ltd are Cosmetics, Personal Care and Biocidal (Household) Products. This is under the directorship of Dawn Mellors. Dawn has worked in the industry for many years both in manufacturing environments and in specialist contract laboratories and hence fully understands the challenges faced by our clients with the implementation of the Cosmetics Regulation (1223 /2009) and the Biocidal Products Regulation (528 /2012). She is committed to working with our clients to provide a tailored, flexible service to meet their requirements.

Sara Beckwith - Commercial Director oversees the Company, and maintains that MelBec work in line with UKAS (ISO 17025). She has many years experience with Customer facing roles and design and implementation of UKAS.
