This is a surreal time here at #MeonSprings.
The lakes are filled with what can only be described as a noisy quiet 😶The day-to-day clamour of the fishery and its customers has fallen quiet only to be replaced with the sound of the birds 🐦filling the void (and Greg shouting at his dogs🐕).
... Normally in our updates we a talk about the biggest fish of the month and fishing tips. For obvious reasons this is now going to be a little difficult.... So we are asking for your help. 🙏
Angling Tales:- We want your angling stories - the more extravagant the better!! Indulge in the size of the fish that got away. Tell us how it was "this big" (stretches hands for guidance 💪).
The tale we find the most fun will get published in our first May update and the author of the chosen story will be given two fish credits on re-opening day!!
Meanwhile....please keep safe 😷🤞🤲

The great thing about our #Yurts is that in terms of #SocialDistancing, we were ahead of the game! #MeonSprings has always been a place to get away! All our yurts and huts are sufficiently spaced for seclusion and privacy.
I think many of us know that once pandemic restrictions are lifted, things won't bounce back to how things were overnight - we'll be encouraged to slowly but cautiously regain some normality.
Meon Springs will be the perfect place for that much needed change of scenery, whilst still maintaining a sensible sense of distancing as the #Covid19 hopefully peters out...

We certainly do live in strange times. And this week has done much to shine a light on these difficult times. However, we will get through this.
Following recent announcements, we have been overwhelmed with emails and phone calls from anglers wishing us well - and looking forward to the time when they will be able to visit again. We look forward to seeing you too.
And we've also been asked to keep the weekly update going. ... After discussions with Greg and the team, we will do so. But things may take a different form for a while.
Fly fishing is a funny pastime. We spend much of it on the bank. On our own. Enjoying the peace and quiet of our natural surroundings; observing nature as the seasons change. And hoping to snare a trout.
For those who tie their own flies, this is also probably a solitary pursuit. And yet, for those who want to get involved, fly fishing is also deeply social. We have societies, guilds, clubs and associations.
For whatever reason you get your tackle out, stay safe and keep well. All the best - and stay safe

🤓Bet you'd rather be out fishing! 😉

Following the Government's decision to restrict all but the most important travel, the fishery is now closed until further notice.
This applies to all day tickets, tuition, Experience Days, corporate events, charity days and clay shooting.
In these difficult times, we wish you well. 🙃
... All the best - and stay safe 😷

Stacey Black, who runs The Yoga Space at Meon Springs has some practical advice re the current Coronavirus crisis and her Yoga Space. (See below).
Later in the year (1st weekend in June), she is running a Yoga Retreat - Stillness of Being event at Meon Springs Yurt Village.
She, like us, will be taking every precaution to ensure people's safety, whilst they enjoy themselves and maintain perspective and sanity.

If you've been to visit us recently, you may have seen that we have some new residents on the lakes.
A family of swans - mum, dad and four adolescent cygnets. They appear to have decided that they'd like to take up residence - can't blame them!
They've been here since the beginning of the year so clearly like it. Very welcome they are - a lovely addition to the fishery.

When better to get away, into the countryside, away from the crowds!!
Lucky for you, we have had a late cancellation and our Hawthorn Shepherd's hut has become available for the weekend of Friday 20th March - next week! Normally £165, but now discounted to £115.50!!
It can be a double or a twin! Fortunately the weather forecast is improving too!!

Fishing Tip: Mixing things up a bit does the trick
Recently, we talked about mixing things up a bit - be it changing flies or altering the depth of your fly before you retrieve, etc.
This was underlined last week by Ron Wilder, who landed a decent rainbow using a dry daddy just under the surface followed by a brownie on the Catch & Release lakes using a bloodworm down deep.
... Two different flies. Two different approaches. Two different techniques. The same result. Brilliant.

Can You Fly Fishing in the Rain?
YES – most definitely you can fly fish in the rain. Those rain drops rippling the surface are like camouflage, the biggest wisest trout know it’s safe to come out because those natural predators will have a tough time seeing. As a bonus, lots of food gets washed into the water during a rain.
For the rest of us, rain can be a bit of a pest. It can ruin a solid weekend plan or cancel an anticipated sporting event. When it comes to anglers and ra...in, there are mixed opinions. It can drive some off the water, but also bring the hardcore anglers out in hopes of landing a giant.
Stay on the water for a little longer during a rain storm and chances are you will be pleasantly surprised.

For those who missed it, today was Members' Day.
Next month's Members' Day is our AGM. So, if you have any ideas you'd like to raise, please let us know and we'll pop them on the agenda.

Last week delivered some interesting fishing experiences. On Tuesday, one angler we spoke to was fishing with a self-tied pale blue dry fly that he pulled just below the surface. Wallop! He had loads of takes plus three or four fish and a couple brownies and all just under the surface.
The following day, one of our regulars had a bagful - all caught on a small hot-headed blue flash damsel retrieved slowly but fished from deep. It just goes to show how quickly things can change.
