Mercedes-Amg Petronas Formula One Team Description

The legacy of the Silver Arrows dates back to 1934 and a debut victory for the Mercedes-Benz W 25 in the legendary Eifelrennen. As legend has it, the Mercedes cars had been stripped of their traditional white paint before the race to save weight – running instead in bare metal. After their triumphant debut, the name 'Silver Arrows' was coined for Mercedes racing cars and gradually caught on over the years.

The legend of the Silver Arrows would continue into the Formula One era in equally successful style, when the three pointed star first entered the World Championship in 1954 and emerged victorious at the first attempt with legendary driver Juan Manuel Fangio – a feat that would be repeated the following season.

A period of almost forty years absence from the sport would follow, before Mercedes-Benz returned to Formula One as an engine supplier in 1994 and then as a full-time works outfit in 2010. Five years later, under a revolutionary set of new regulations introduced for the 2014 season, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team would return the Silver Arrows to title-winning ways – clinching both the Constructors’ and Drivers’ World Championships.
