We joined for a pasta making lesson and I have to say the team could not have done enough for us. We got way more than we expected, the service from front of house was better than from posh Michelin starred places we’ve been, Angela, Neil and the kitchen team were the most welcoming bunch and happy just to spend time answering all our questions, talking about all kinds of subjects and teaching us loads. I’d thoughrougly recommend a visit, we can’t wait to go back. Thanks Angela Harriett and Neil Borthwick for a very special day we’ll remember for a very long time, what lovely, welcoming people.

We had our work Christmas lunch there yesterday and we had a fabulous afternoon!

The staff were fantastic nothing was too much trouble! The menu was great with a wide choice and it was all cooked to perfection!

They even looked after our gluten free diner that was in our party. Great buzzy atmosphere and in a great location...We Will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful lunch on Friday 18th November. The food was exquisite and full compliments to the chef. The staff were friendly & very attentive. The whole experience was wonderful & i definately would come again. Thank you.

I have been lucky to play at the Merchant Tavern and its wonderful sound system few times, it's an amazing experience in itself, if you add the exquisite food, an impeccable service and the very friendly staff you can understand why this place is the success that it is.

I have been here many times but this is the first time I have written a review. My dishes were accurately prepared, nicely presented and well balanced. The Crab Salad come with a nice dose of freshly picked white crab meat, and nicely paired with a tasty light sauce. The lamb was served pink, was moist and very well seasoned. My dessert was a Paris Brest, served with some extra chocolate sauce - heaven! The service was attentive without being intrusive. The live DJ was an extra bonus. I will be back soon

I absolutely loved our lunch at Merchants Tavern on Friday 18th November. The food was superb. Best Venison and Chocolate Mousse I have had, even beats anything I have had jn South Africa, the home of Venison and Chocolate Mousse! Ambience wonderful and service excellent. Well recommended.

Great atmosphere, delicious food and the most delicious margarita. It I could complain about anything it would be that the margarita glass was very small.

Exquisite food, lovely attentive staff, perfect ambience. Just as a modern yet traditional pub should be.

Let me start by saying I was looking for a pub with a simple "meat pie" as I am alone for dinner in London And didn't want to venture far from my hotel in this weeklong work trip. So - I started out drinking very strong beers (2 pale ales as I'm used to bud light....did I mention I'm American?) in one of the only pubs without freakin "reservations" I could find. WTF? Who makes reservations at a pub? During the week? 7-9? Omg. Anyway... I ventured into this place and found "my place." More to come but I have to use the "facilities" and I'm running out of battery. Hold tight- review of the food and service coming up. Epic.

If you are expecting this to be just an extended pub menu then you will be disappointed as the style and choice of food was excellent. Not one of our party was disappointed with their choice and the staff made you feel welcome and valued as a customer.

I was apprehensive when told there would be a DJ but the volume of the music was just right and allowed you to talk with your friends. The music itself was a good and varied mix and covered a wide spectrum of styles.

Finally if you are waiting for everyone to turn up try one of their sausage rolls as they are a nice accompaniment with your drink.

Had a lovely evening here on a visit up from Cornwall. Loved the restaurant, the atmosphere and the staff. The Cote de Beouf was amazing although a little disappointed with the basque gateaux, however when we mentioned this the manager came over and was great in dealing with what wasn't a complaint but just a comment really. Will definitely come back again the next time we are in London.

Cool warehouse restaurant space, appealing menu and friendly service. All the food we ate was really good. MT has a good wine list as well. I wasn’t blown away by the food or atmosphere though so probably wouldn’t rush back given the high prices.

4/5 - Somewhere that feels homely, comforting & hides a great treat - the food! The cuisine here is a modern mix of English / French / Italian & Spanish and employs a smart but not overly formal setting in which to enjoy just drinks or drinks & food. Winner!



With its cosy atmosphere, comfy chairs and wood burners, the bar area makes you feel immediately relaxed.



The restaurant continues the same feel but this is where the real magic takes centre stage. I had the Quail, foie gras, remouldae, hazelnut pesto & treviso chutney to start followed by Ox cheek, smoked mash potato, pickled red onions. Both were not only beautifully presented (with an artistic touch) but overwhelmingly packed full of flavour; every bite releasing a new blend of intense flavours and juices. The Ox cheek was especially noteworthy; I could have (and practically did) lick the plate clean.



It was nice to meet the head chef, Neil Borthwick who was clearly as passionate to hear diner feedback as I was to give it. Merchant's Tavern also has the stamp of Angela Hartnett since she is also at the helm. Am I glad? Just a little.



This was a refreshing change and well worth the trip out to Shoreditch to enjoy. Food, service & atmosphere were all great.
