We would like to extend our sincere thanks & gratitude to Matthew Harte, 5th Dan Judo blackbelt from Friary Judo Club for teaching us a foundational session on throws and breakfalls yesterday.

Our Monday sessions will begin again on this Monday the 13th of May.

Tomorrow we have a guest Aikido instructor to teach us about break falls, throws and wrist locks.

Last night we worked through the anonymous messer plays form the Glasgow fechtbuch.

We are excited to announce that we will begin holding club nights on a Monday, as well as Thursday, from this Monday the 4th. The time is the same as Thursdays; 8pm to 10pm.

On Saturday we hosted the sparring event for West Midlands HEMA Alliance. We had about 40 fencers, representing about 10 different clubs from around the country. 3 hours of sparring followed by a trip to the pub. MMFC is very grateful to all of our guests for making the trip to see us.

Only 5 days to go until the WMHA sparring day. ... Bring a towel.

For our last session before Christmas, MMFC will be honoring the longstanding tradition of "Bag of Death" and melee combat. Maybe some pretend horses too ... ...

Unfortunately the training session tonight (06/12/18) has been cancelled. We will be back on Thursday the 13th of December. Final training session of 2018 will be the 20th of December. Then trainig resumes on the 3rd of January 2019.

On Saturday last week, members of MMFC attended an excellent sparring day as part of the West Midlands Hema Alliance. 3 hours of fencing, and then at least 3 hours in a curry house discussing, amongst other things, swords & stuff. MMFC would like to particularly thank the Academy of Historical Fencing for visiting us with an armoury of shields, sabres, rapiers, and other non-longsword weapons. Also especial thanks to the club leaders Tea Kewand James Dougherty for attending, as well as a representative from Liverpool HEMA Alex Roberts.

Dan and bigger Dan from MMFC attempt to spar longsword vs two-handed axe. The axe is a re-enactment weapon, so it requires a lot of control to not be extremely dangerous. We found the 'beard' of the axe can catch the sword. This video is only a few short clips from and experimental bout.
