Wow... what a day! Just enjoyed an amazing Christmas Dinner at the Merryhill. Dreaded eating out on a Christmas but couldnŌĆÖt cater at home this year! What can I say, staff... well if you donŌĆÖt like them... there must be something wrong with you! They have looked after me and my family and friends all day... nothing was too much trouble, even when my 2 yr old wouldnŌĆÖt eat the turkey... they made chicken nuggets for him so at least he didnŌĆÖt starve! Nothing was too much trouble, really touched by their attention on a very busy day. Simon, gotta say... you and your team are fabulous and a special thank you today to Jenny, Andy and fran too. Thank you. Andy and family.

User

The food was good and at a very fair price. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The wheelchair access was great. I will be taking my brother there again

User

Been coming here for over 25 years on and off.

Needs direction,

Not somewhere you go for a meal with the family as no matter where you sit it's loud!

Too mixed up, TVs on everywhere, music blasting.

Ideally could do with sectioning areas.

We do however enjoy going down for drinks. It's an easy night. Bar staff are fab.

Walking distance for us.

It's a shame around the news regarding the chef that was trying to show some humility to the less fortunate in this life. Why would you sack someone for that?! Surely this was the managements golden opportunity to capitalise on this good deed to really put your pub on the map!

User

ate here for the first time today and last, myself and my daughter had the tikka masala and it was tasty, not much meat, not worth the value you pay. my partner had the mixed gril and the steak was undercooked, sausages were black and grease on the plate, he could not eat it, was refunded that part of the meal. was told by a regular the food was frozen not fresh. the attitude of the chef was to be desired.

Pub is a load of site

User

Looks lovely on the outside, let down on the inside, menus stuck together on the tables, I ordered jacket potato with chilli con carne, but a lack of chilli con carne. I know it was a ┬Ż3.49 meal. Portion of chips not hot enough, I work in catering, and I would not have sent this meal out to a customer,. Yes I should have complained there and then, but I had a long day, and was looking forward to my meal.

User

I used to Think this pub was okay. A bit dead at times, no fault of anyone, but just okay.

However,

As I'm someone who works with vulnerable young people with various issues such as substance misuse, not in education and in particular (in relation to this review) homelessness, I am disgusted, vexed, shocked, (in fact I'm running out of adjectives here to explain my feelings) that the powers that be though it was ok to bar a member of staff (and other people) because they have a passion to cook for homeless people on Easter Sunday (yes Easter, the time of year Christian's celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus, who in his time did loads for homeless and other vulnerable people).

I would understand if this staff member got sacked or barred for fighting or anything like that. But for asking not to work on that day? Really? You mean to tell me there were no other workers to cover?????

I appreciate there are 2 side to every story and I would love to hear the explaination for all of this. But as it stands, it's not looking to good for 2 reasons:

A/ helping people in need is something I feel strong about

B/ You have banned someone just for supporting the staff member, who happens to be a good friend and someone who's presence will be missed at your pub.

I've never left a review like this before, but if you hadn't of done this. I wouldn't have needed too.

User

Food was nasty left kids with out food for ten minutes and the bar staff was a prick spoke to us really poorly complaining he was short staffed in a snotty time won't be eating their again

User

Ate here 2 weeks ago. Had nachos. A spider crawled out from under the nachos. The meal was returned and replaced with what I can only describe as a child size portion. I'd only eaten about 3 or 4 nachos from the original meal. I used the feedback form to complain. The friend who was with me also complained. My friend had a response and a ┬Ż20 voucher. My complaint, as the person who had a live spider in her meal was not acknowledged. I emailed again. Still no response. I have now emailed the brewery. What a poor way to do business. Very unprofessional. I wish I had photographed it and contacted environmental health. Next stop Twitter. I intend to spread the word far and wide as they clearly have no regard for their reputation.
