Merseyside Dogs Home Description

All the animals on these pages are desperately in need of a loving home, having come to us as a stray. We do not take general hand-ins.

We are the only rescue on Merseyside dedicated to caring for local stray dogs, relying totally on public support. We do not receive government or lottery funding, which means we rely solely on donations from our generous supporters. We work closely with the dog warden services of Merseyside to take in, rehabilitate and rehome the unclaimed and unwanted stray dogs of this area.

We look after lost dogs and care very much about the animals in our charge. We all work long hours and devote our lives to the welfare of these dogs.

We do not put any animals to sleep to make room for other dogs.

... On Saturday 11th August I will be abseiling all 150ft of Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral west door to raise money for Merseyside Dogs Home, a local dog rescue centre who look after and rehome dogs just like my little rescue Heinz 57 partner in crime Jess :)
Any money you can spare for this very worthwhile cause will be very much appreciated by me and especially the pooches in need of tlc before finding their forever homes.
Many thanks, Jenny

Wonderfully well looked after & cared for fur babies, with the most approachable caring staff. Some of these dogs have had a terrible time before they’ve arrived at Mersey Dogs Home & you can see the upset & heartache on the staffs expressions when your asking for information. The staff are always happy to help and so hard working.

User

What a fantastic group of people and many wonderful dogs. So happy with our new family members. I have got to say please people adopt not shop. These babies need homes with people who will love them warts and all, they make life more fun x

User

Went to visit to give treats and came home having adopted Pot Noodle, now Ruby. She is so cute and well behaved. I'm hoping to adopt another little playmate in the new year to join our family unit.

User

Visited here today. The dogs are so well trained, healthy and obviously well looked after. All staff were very friendly and there was treats out to feed the dogs. Looking forward to adopting a dog from here in the very near future, wouldn't go anywhere else now I've visited here.

User

The most amazing dog’s home you could ever visit. Never have I met staff as friendly, as experienced or as enthusiastic as these. We fell in love with our dog on Saturday and visited a further four times before bringing him home today. We were able to speak to staff, who were more than happy to tell us what he’s like. They had already taught him so many commands. He was so well looked after here and we are so glad we went ‘for a look’. We cannot thank you enough and could not recommend you enough. Our hearts are so happy.

User

Merseyside Dogs Home is an amazing place! Seriously underfunded and therefore understaffed, yet they provide the best care for the most beautiful dogs. I was matched with my Dolly (was Amber Nect-grrr) thanks to the well experienced, friendly staff. It is because of the staff, their advice and support that Dolly is settling in so well with her new family. Thank you!

User

I’ve always had dogs and they have always been rescues.

So have been to a lot of different ones over the years (originally from stoke) but hand on heart HERE they the most experienced/qualified/loving staff I’ve ever come across (dog lovers all of the other Centers and afew experts but here just wow). But what I love even more it’s not just the dogs they vet but the people hoping to adopt. 10/10 in every category

User

Got our Pippa (was Netty) from Merseyside Dogs Home in February this year, the staff were great gave sound advice, I have nothing but praise for them.

Pippa was microchipped and came with a neutering voucher, which she has just had done. The staff also did a follow up home visit which Pippa enjoyed.

Thank you Merseyside Dogs Home for our lovely little dog and keep up the good work.

User

Came here yesterday to visit the dog we adopted. Amazing and friendly staff. We adopted Mick Wagger on Tuesday, such a friendly dog and I cant wait to bring him home on Sunday! Keeping the name Mick though as he suits it haha!

User

A great team (with a sense of humour) committed, helpful, with the dogs’ best interests at heart.

Made the process of adopting Mac (was Cooper) straight forward enough.

Doing their best for the waifs and strays when no other charity appears to be bothered.

User

We turned up yesterday to view 2 dogs that are in the homeless album. Turns out one was already adopted and one was reserved and yet the website isn't updated, nor was my message replied to. And seeing as it is stated to turn up rather than message and things, it would be handy if you at least kept your dogs up to date to save money on petrol and disappointment!

So we asked about any dogs coming in and were told about 2 big young dogs that weren't suitable for what we're looking for.

And yet today there's a number of small dogs going up, which were what we were looking for.

Not the best for honesty.
