Then why not come along to the 50th anniversary celebrations of Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service's Training & Development Academy in Croxteth on Friday, August 11!
To celebrate 50 years since it first opened its doors, a special open day will be held at the academy on Storrington Avenue from 11am to 4pm featuring live action demonstrations from firefighters and urban search and rescue teams.
... Highlights will include fire demonstrations, a simulated road traffic collision rescue, displays featuring the Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service hazardous materials response team and exercises involving combined platform ladders and a portable gas rig.
Firefighters will also perform a simulated rescue from height, Merseyside Police horses will be at the event, and a climbing wall will be available to anyone daring enough to scale it.
Serving as the main training base for whole time and retained firefighters in Merseyside, the academy has seen generations of firefighters successfully graduate from its training programmes since it opened its doors in 1967.
Entry is free and everyone is welcome along. The address of The Training & Development Academy is Storrington Avenue, Croxteth, Liverpool, L11 9AP. Parking will be available at St John Bosco School.

We need someone with great communication skills who can help our training staff with the preparation of rooms and training ground.
The role will also include maintain and testing equipment, ensuring our car park and grounds are kept in a safe condition and controlling our fire training building.
... We are looking for someone with previous experience of maintaining buildings and premises who has a good knowledge of manual handling techniques.
You will need a good standard of fitness in order to handle heavy equipment and a full UK driving licence.
Practical firefighting experience is desirable but not essential.
This is a non-uniformed, fixed-term role offering a 35-hour a week contract.
