We were driving through Woolston looking for something to eat, haven’t been to Woolston for ages and boy it’s changed, stumbled on Mettricks, but puzzled by the parking underneath wasn’t displayed very well with lots of clamping signs so parked a little way up the street. They should make it clearer if you can park there for free if using the square.

Mind you it was worth the walk. The food was excellent and their chips are to dye for. Great atmosphere even at lunchtime, will try again in the evening sometime

Although I’ve always thought it over priced the food is always good and because I live in the plaza it’s convenient, however went in bank holiday Monday, We were told they only had 1 person in the kitchen and 2 waiters (on a sunny bank holiday Monday by the waterfront and packed!!) therefore waited well over an hour for food (we were told half an hour). Today went down for breakfast and ordered 2 breakfasts, after waiting nearly 45 minutes only to be brought one meal as the other order hadn’t been taken! The staff are lovely but if the owners want to charge those prices then they need to manage the place far more effectively and not leave their staff to apologise for them!!

I'm a Big fan of Mettricks in Town, love the coffee and the idea of the place. Woolston however is a total disappointment. I have been a few times now, wanting it to be nice- but it never is.



Today we went for brunch, ok so we expected it to be busy on a lovely sunny Sunday. But when we arrive the place was carnage, dirty tables everywhere, 30 min wait on coffee. Our food was very average and the coffee that arrived after the 30 mins was made way to hot, the coffee was burnt and the milk was not the skinny I requested.



The staffs attitude was not great- just saying they were short staffed and busy- which I get- I would not have minded waiting 30 mins for a coffee if the reason they were slow was because they were not letting coffee standards drop- this however was not the case!!



I'm afraid to say we will not be returning �

I really want to like Mettricks. However last Saturday I turned up for breakfast but you had no chef to do breakfast. I understood these things happen so invited my friends to come this evening. However it turns out most the cocktails on your menu the staff can't do as their is no tab on your electronic menu but clearly still see all the ingredients!?

Where do I start - I arrived with my hubby at 9.41 am we waited in the queue very patiently for 5 mins. Whilst someone was paying I reached for the menu. Saw & decided before lady fully paid hers. So we ordered full English breakfast and a latte & Americano white , and can we not have tomato nor black pudding. Ok She replied and said drinks will be a couple of minutes. We were given a bottle with a wooden spoon in it and we sat outside the back. At 10.13 my husband said I'd better check where our hot drinks were. The lady came out & said sorry about the wait and do you require sugar , we replied yes please. We never saw her again. This was 10.10 am So husband went to get some. Our drinks was cold. Our breakfast - arrived at 10.16 am ,eggs beans and toast & sausages was cold , the hash browns were lovely and hot , the bacon was crunchy and cold and drenched in fat which it looked like it needed the oil changing . The tomato skin on plate still which I clearly stated I can't eat tomatoes when ordering , & looked like it was hidden under my cold fried oiled eggs. I've never rated or ranted to a meal out ever so this is my first. More waitresses needed so food could go out on time , will not be returning being charged over 21 pounds for what nice hot hash browns. !!!!

What's happening at mettricks.... We've been coming here from day one and have loved it. Coffee and food has never been served fast, we didn't mind this as we would happily sit for a few hours and just relax. We would visit several times a week. Over recent months we have visited less and less. Service is slower than usual, often tables need clearing. I'm a great believer in supporting local business and loved the fact we had somewhere we could walk to and enjoy a coffee or cocktail. I'm writing this because Tuesday the 17th was the first time ever I'd asked for a refund and left with nothing. We ordered coffee at appx 17.55 and at 18.20 when I went to ask where our coffees were I was asked what coffees. I pointed out that since ordering the coffee the two staff memebs had both served others and left the counter to do other tasks. When I asked for a refund, it really didn't phase them. Also the ice cream freezer needs looking at, flavours are mixed and really doesn't look appealing. It really is slipping, shame really as we've always loved our chilled evenings.....

Waited 50 mins for 1 bowl of chips... just chips!! With 2 hungry kids. U need more people serving, the queue was out the door and just 1 person (slowly) tapping in an ipad. Sort it out, ruined our time. We had finished our drinks by the time the, 1 bowl of chips, came out! �� Staff un helpful, and seemed not bothered. They all look bloody scruffy too! Put a uniform on them!!

Sorry but Eggs Benedict comes on a muffin or a crusty slice of bread, not a bubble & squeak hash brown. Oily and no way to mop up the egg yoke or sauce. Please return to the traditional recipe or I’m one customer who won’t be coming back for breakfast or brunch.

I honestly don’t understand how after all this time Mettricks still hasn’t pinned down the most important thing about food service - sending the order out correctly. Something is always forgotten or made with random ingredients that aren’t in the menu, so now I stick to buying drinks only. However, apparently even a cappuccino and americano is a tall order (milk was added to the americano, which I didn’t ask for).



Wish we had a Starbucks, there’s no comparison (and it’s cheaper).
