There's a big festival starting today a few miles away called Glastonbury Festival. One of the things it's known for is the creatively painted bins. We're lucky enough to borrow some of these for our own rock festival! Aren't they great?! #melhc2019 #sogood #rockfestival

We’re sure that many of you are aware that we have English Mentors who join our students on the courses. This helps to maximise the use of English, which is encouraged through the friendships students make with English Mentors. English Mentors join the students in all aspects of the course including lessons, excursions and evening activities. Many of our students have made good friends with English Mentors over the past few years and are still in touch with them today.
We en...courage all students attending this summer to ensure they spend time with our English Mentors. Not only is it a great benefit to the students in improving their English, but it’s also great for the English Mentors who get to learn about different countries and cultures, whilst also increasing their confidence and enhancing their own communication skills.
See the pictures to read about the experiences of two of our English Mentors from previous years.

🤔 Mark’s Musings:.
The Millfield colours are Blue, Green and Red and as you know we use these a lot in the summer, for example, each colour represents one of our campuses. I thought it would be interesting to find out the origins of the colours so I asked around the school but no one seems to know for sure. So, this is my best guess…
💙 Blue is the colour of the sky, it is also in “blue sky thinking” for which we are famous. Blue also represents meanings of depth, trust, loya...lty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability and intelligence. Everybody always feels “blue” though when the courses are over.
💚 Green is the colour of the beautiful Somerset landscape, where you will find our three campuses - probably the best you can find in England! Green also represents growth and harmony. Our students are all a bit “green” when they arrive at Millfield for the first time, but not when they leave. .
❤️ Red is the colour that symbolizes the heart. It is a “red letter day” when you arrive. Red also represents passion and adventure. As I always say to our students when they leave “Keep a little bit of Millfield in your hearts”.

We hope you are all getting excited about the summer - we certainly are! We just wanted to remind all of our students and English Mentors about our website created just for you – The Zone. Here you will find photos and videos of previous courses, and we will be uploading new content each week during the summer. You can also visit The Zone to use our Message Board and contact the Director on Ask Mark. The Message Board is the ideal place to introduce yourself to the other stud...ents attending the course and you may even make some friends before you arrive. Also, if you have any questions at all don’t hesitate to post them on Ask Mark. You are guaranteed a quick answer from Mark and he looks forward to hearing from you all 🙂 The Zone - millfieldthezone.com #melhc2019 #sogood #englishlanguagecourses #messageboard #askmark #getintouch #sayhello #thezone #photos #videos #qualityenglish #euksw #britishcouncilaccredited

Mark attended the English UK Annual Conference yesterday in a beautiful setting opposite Tower Bridge. It was a very busy day which included updates from the Chief Executive (Mark even featured in the slide show!) and round table discussions. . The attendees had a first look at the statistics on student numbers and it was very pleasing to see that in 2018 the numbers of weeks that students attended courses in the South West increased by 5% on the 2017 figures. . Whilst in L...ondon Mark also took time to visit the LanguageCert offices in Sloane Square, but above all his time in London provided a great opportunity for him to catch up with his many friends in the industry. . . #euk #euksw #elt #tesol #englishlanguagecourses #annualconference #london #uk @ London, United Kingdom

Last week Kate attended the InnovateELT Conference in Barcelona where she gave a presentation called ‘Letting the Students Choose’ focusing on our Bruton campus and the flexible timetable. . Whilst there Kate entered a competition for choosing something from ELT today that you’d like to see in the future in a time capsule for 2044. Kate chose ‘Negotiated Syllabus’ where teachers and students work together to plan courses that meet individual student needs. Kate came second an...d won some wireless speakers which were presented to her by Duncan Foord from Oxford TEFL. . . #elt # conference #iELT2019 #barcelona @ Barcelona, Spain
