Milton Keynes University Hospital Nhs Foundation Trust Description

Milton Keynes Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides a broad range of general medical and surgical services for more than 300, 000 people every year.

Our mission:
"Milton Keynes is a hospital committed to learning, to honesty, and to the best possible care and experience for every patient, every time. "

>>About us

Milton Keynes Hospital occupies a 60-hectare site to the south of the city centre.

We are a medium sized district general hospital, serving Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.

The hospital has approximately 400 inpatient beds, and provides a broad range of general medical and surgical services.

We have a busy A& E Department that manages all medical, surgical and child health emergency admissions.

As our local population grows, we continue to develop our facilities.

In addition to providing general acute services, Milton Keynes Hospital increasingly provides more specialist services, including cancer care, cardiology and oral surgery.

We have responsibility for treating premature babies born locally. Some of the babies we treat are born as early as 24 weeks old (16 weeks early), and weigh as little as 500 grams.

Some quick facts:

the Trust employs 3, 000 staff
we have beds for 400 patients
70, 000 people come to Accident and Emergency every year
we treat 20, 000 elective patients, 200, 000 outpatients, and deliver over 4, 000 babies every year.

Paul the Magician and Gully Mouse from Gulliver's Land paid a special visit to our children's ward yesterday. They spent time with the patients, created balloon animals and gave out tickets for Gulliver's Land, so the patients have a treat to look forward to once they are home.

This Christmas we are delighted that @SamsungUK will be supporting us to make wishes come true for our patients. The local Milton Keynes community – our patients and staff – will have the opportunity to decide the products that are donated to us that will support the experience that our patients receive whilst in our care.
To get involved in the campaign, simply head down to the Samsung Experience Store in Centre:MK any time until Saturday 22 December. Every visitor to the store will receive one token, with customers making a purchase receiving five tokens. These can then be entered into the Samsung Wish Machine which will ultimately determine the products we will be donated.

Red Hats for Newborn Babies
Are you nifty with the knitting needles? Could you put your talents to good use and knit little hats for babies? Milton Keynes University Hospital is after volunteers who can knit red hats for their newest patients, to ensure they stay warm during the transfer from the Labour to maternity wards.
Midwife Michelle Hancock explains: ‘We have cases where some babies get chilly, even when they are being cuddled by mum on the transfer. We are asking for ...people to knit red hats so that babies who might be at risk can be easily identified as requiring constant skin-to-skin contact when they get to the maternity wards.’
All hats should be newborn size and can be knitted in any shade of red you like, and to any pattern. These can easily be found on the internet. Please drop your knitted hats at reception in the main entrance labelled for Michelle Hancock, Maternity.

after being taken into hospital over the weekend with pneumonia i want to thank everyone who was involved in my care, i was on ward 1 which i think is the chronic care ward from a&e as the first point of call. lots of doctors and nurses and they literally didnt stop, whatever they pay them it isn't enough, thank you all xxx

User

Thank you to the staff at A&E and the childrens department. Big thank you to the man at the reception for making us smile and putting us at ease after my 8 month had a fall also thanks to the ladies in the childrens department we was seen quickly and given alot of information and advice on aftercare.

User

Such lovely staff. After being in and out of hospital this past weekend. I was very well looked after in my panicked state. Big thank you to the lady that took my blood and the doctors in the medic bay that kept a eye on me.

User

Please can you pass on my extreme gratitude for the amazing Ambulance and A&E staff who cared for me yesterday..Ambulance crews Hillary Sheppard, Agata and Kat! Putting me at ease and controlling the pain,Hillary closed all the windows at home made sure my home was secure and even brought me a bottle of water into the ambulance, that’s what you call going above and beyond the call of duty A&E have some very true heroes,Tiffany,Liz,Nicola and not forgetting Brandford! You took the time to ensure I was comfortable, pain under control and even took the time to make conversation in what is an extremely busy department,I hope you enjoy the cakes when you get the time to sit down with a cuppa,Know in you’re hearts what you are doing is phenomenal and it takes a special kind of person to care for others when they don’t feel like smiling, from the bottom of my heart...THANK YOU xx

User

My husband called 111 that call ended with paramedics arriving shortly after and being taken to a and e, the paramedics where amazing, I was so scared and feeling so unwell and they where calming, chatting to me putting me at ease. The nurses and doctors at a and e where also brilliant! Working as quickly as possible, kept checking up on me and making sure I was as comfortable and had everything I needed, my previous experiences with the hospital had not been great but this time considering the circumstances it was made to me as pleasant as possible. Well done to everyone working so hard

User

Just spent 3 nights on ward 5 with my 19 month old daughter and honestly I can’t praise the staff enough. I was kept informed of everything that was going on, all the staff were lovely, nothing was too much to ask and I felt like my views and requests regarding her care were respected. On arrival there was some confusion as the ambulance staff had been told to take my daughter straight to ward 4, on account of how poorly she was the staff allowed us to bypass A&E and go straight into a bed on the ward, this was greatly appreciated considering how stressed I was and it’s nice to see patients needs being put before procedure.

This is the second time I’ve stayed at MKUH (had my daughter via c-section there) and I’ve never had any complaints about our care, it’s always been fantastic.

User

I would like to say a massive thank you to the 3( I believe all members of staff, off duty) that aided myself in the multi story car park yesterday morning,10th June, just after 8am. My grandson decided to arrive extra quick and was born in the back of my car!! I pulled over jumped out and delivered my grandson and was lucky enough to be soon aided by these 3 lovely ladies. It was all so hectic I have no idea of any names but I whole heartedly thank you all so much for ur support. U were all so friendly and calm in what was a rather chaotic situation. Mother and baby were both absolutely fine and discharged home just after lunch. If any one knows of these lovely ladies please do pass on my greatest gratitude to them and I would love to thank them in person

User

I would like to say a massive thank to all A and E staff that were on in the early hours of saturday morning you were amazing along with all the staff on ward 23 that looked after me. The job you do is second to none

User

I would like say a massive thank to all the staff on duty last night who looked after my mum and the young nurse who was working on his birthday he went that extra mile for my mum thank you all again

User

I was admitted to A&E on 1/4/18 - the nurses and doctors were absolutely amazing. Caring, compassionate and completely professional throughout. We are all aware that staff are underpaid and overworked but that does not detract from how brilliant they all are. I could not have been in better hands - thank you to all of you.

User

I honestly can’t express how amazing the nurses and consultants on Ward 5 have been over the past week. After being there with our 3 year old son who was having multiple seizures, not once did we feel alone or silly for asking questions, nothing was too much trouble and Dr Umaan (sorry if that’s incorrect) couldn’t have explained anything clearer to us, and really put our minds at ease, and as for the nurses they were continuously supportive and friendly and completely compassionate! Thank you so much to all of you for making a terrifying experience a little easier, and an even bigger thank you for taking such good care of our little soldier!

User

First time I ever had to call 999, I fell and couldn’t get up because of a painful foot injury. From the minute the ambulance turned up to leaving A&E I could not fault anything.

The paramedics were kind and helpful, even managed to put a smile on my face. Everyone at the hospital were amazing.

A big thank you to everyone who helped me out, you’re all doing a great job and under such a stressful environment.

User

Fantastic staff . Always happy and friendly and make you feel really comfortable. Nothing ever too much trouble

User

Amazing services i know most people don't appreciate it but for me having my 2 babies here under emergency ceasarian and today my sister had a baby girl the respond from the nurses midwife and surgeons.. was amazing these people need to be appreciated more..love you NHS may GOD Bless you with the amazing services you give us

User

A big shout out to the staff in the Breast Care clinic! On Tuesday, I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment (very nervous!), was called in 5 minutes later, had my mammogram, then a 20 minute wait for the scan. 10 minutes after that, I saw the consultant, who told me everything was clear. Huge relief!

Warm welcome, laughter, understanding and a diagnosis after 50 minutes. Also, some amazing artwork by local school kids in the waiting room - the 3D forest and foxes collage is fantastic.

All in all, a stellar experience! Well done, MK Hospital and staff, you get 5 stars from me. I love the NHS, we just need to increase taxes to pay for it properly. <3

2 years ago my son (7years old at the time) caught viral meningitis, we had rung 111 and listed symptoms who sent an ambulance, when we got into a&e we were rushed in where amazing nurses and doctors worked fast and were amazing! They literally saved his life. One nurse named Bicardi gave him a special teddy for his bravery (which he named after her and loves to pieces). The nurses on ward 5 when we were transferred were amazing and supportive, always looking after my son's needs and welfare first.

Yesterday my son (now 9) broke his pinkie finger. We came into a&e and were booked in, seen by a nurse, seen by a Dr, had an x-ray, got strapped up and booked our appointment at the fracture clinic and were back out in an HR! Amazing fast service and I was really super impressed. The only pitfall is that to gain access to or leave children's a&e, you have to go through the ambulance a&e areas which was hard because there are lots of seriously unwell people which my son found distressing and it's where my son was when he was rushed in seriously ill which I found very distressing. Some warning may have been a good idea.

User

The nursing staff do a fantastic job BUT beware if anything goes missing here. The hospital 'lost' my mothers dentures, did nothing to help replace them, and despite having invoices and proof of payment from a dentist, known to the hospital, who had to make numerous home visits (as she can't get out after being in hospital) they have now refused to compensate resulting in a loss to a pensioner of £1,400.

User

Cannot fault the hospital care for my elderly mother in Ward 22, absolutely brilliant staff and care. That is definitely 5 star

HOWEVER! The reason I have given it 1 star is because ever since she has been home she has been plagued with texts and phone calls from people trying to sell her insurance and wanting to sort out her PPI.

There are only a few people who have her mobile number, the family and Milton Keynes Hospital, who told her it would be used to remind her of her numerous appointments. So her number has been sold on - by whom? We'll definitely not her family, so that leaves just MK Hosptital! She is 86 and we are having to get her a new mobile number as she is so distressed about this. For shame MKH, I know you need money but this is plumbing the depths.

User

Not happy with A and E at all they wanted to send my Mum home the consultant without checked her urine test sent to the lab and her bloods show she had a viral infection the consultants need to take in to consideration the illnesses witch my mum as MS quite Complicated illness before they send her home only good thing about Mk hospital the wards are brill just A and E is a let down.
