Our lovely venue, Hush-A-Byes are celebrating their 1st birthday THIS Saturday!!! Come on down and enjoy a yummy cupcake and meet all of amazing local business, including Mini First Aid Bath, that are showcased in store. They will be having a raffle to win some vouchers, free glitter tattoos, photograph and baby casting opportunities (check their fb page). Have a look around their beautiful sensory room if you haven’t yet had a chance and check out all the classes they have... on offer. They will also be offering 10% off everything in store (excluding sale items). There may even be a princess appearance. Come on down and help us celebrate!

Do you know anyone who left school at year 13 between 2015 and 2017?
Only 40% of this eligible age group have taken up their free MenACWY vaccine, which protects against four types of deadly meningitis. This age group are at greater risk of contracting the disease, which acts fast and can kill in hours.
If you know someone who may have missed out on their life saving vaccine, please urge them to speak to a GP at the earliest opportunity.
... Even if only 1 person gets vaccinated because of this post then it was worth sharing.

Would you know how to use a public access defibrillator (PAD)?
When in cardiac arrest a person's chance of survival decreases by approximately 10% for every minute they don't receive effective CPR; using a defibrillator alongside CPR can improve a person's chance of survival and that's why you find these green boxes in public areas.
Anyone can use a PAD (you don't need to have had any training, the machine speaks the instructions to you) and the 999 operator can inform you if... there is a PAD nearby to where you are. If there is one nearby, continue CPR and send someone to get it. They simply need to follow the instructions on the box to access the defibrillator and bring it back to the patient.
Don’t be intimidated by it; even children have shown they can follow the simple instructions and use them correctly! Also, you CANNOT hurt someone with it. The machine decides whether to shock or not based on the heart rhythm it detects.
Keep an eye out for tomorrow's post where we'll be showing you a video of how to use a public access defibrillator 🚑

⭐️Please, please, please do not underestimate the dangers of these little batteries. ⭐️Even if you only suspect your child had swallowed one, get them checked, it really isn’t worth the risk. ⭐️Make sure toys, remotes etc that contain this type of battery are kept out of reach of curious little ones.

Today on the blog we are sharing a beautiful, honest and brave story from a mum who had to perform CPR on her 6 month old son. It's hearing stories like these that make us thankful we do what we do:

💚 It’s important to keep your baby cool when you’re out and about. 👶🏼☀️
💚 The Lullaby Trust has provided some useful information below. 👇🏻
💚 Attach a clip-on sunshade to the pram to keep your baby out of direct sunlight and monitor their temperature by feeling their tummy or the back of their neck.
... 💚 Prams and buggies should not be covered with blankets, cloths or any cover that prevents the air from circulating. Covering a pram or buggy with a blanket could lead to overheating, which increases the chance of SIDS.

💚 Even wondered if it's head forward or backwards for nosebleeds?! 🤧
💚 Nosebleeds can be caused by many things including sneezing, injury, or when blowing/picking your nose; most are minor and only last a few minutes but giving correct first aid can help to stop the bleeding.
💚 Tipping the head forwards helps to stop the blood from going down the throat and blocking the airway!
... ‼️Seek medical advice if the bleeding is severe, occurs after a head injury, or lasts longer than 30 minutes‼️
💚Nosebleeds can be scary but following the below first aid can help you stay calm and in control.
💚 Don't forget to share with other Mums, Dads & Grandparents to let them know what to do.

Did you know that on average 110 children attend A&E every single day with a burn injury? Almost 50% of these are caused by hot drinks.
Here are a few simple ways to reduce the chance of your little one getting a burn from a hot drink:
☕️ Make sure cups containing hot drinks are placed high-up and out of reach of little hands... ☕️ Ask for hot drinks in cafes to be placed in takeaway cups with a lid (take your own reusable cup to help reduce waste) ☕️ Avoid drinking hot drinks while holding or feeding your baby (don't forget to ask visitors to do the same!) ☕️ Ensure you know the correct first aid for burns to minimise the chance of a serious burn injury; burns gel is a must-have for your changing bag first aid kit!
If you'd like to know more about first aid for burns, come along to any of our 2-hour Mini First Aid classes.
Share this post with other Mums and Dads to raise awareness of childhood burns.
