Did you know that 56 children of primary school age drowned in the UK over the last five years? Drowning accidents involving children and young people are tragedies that should never happen and could be prevented with simple water safety advice. This week is Drowning Prevention Week and over on the blog we are joined by Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK who are sharing their top advice for water safety. Humberside Fire & Rescue Service have been successfully locating people using the What3words App. Download the app and it will give you co-ordinates of your location in words. Emergency services are then able to use the software to locate you.
This is particularly useful if you are unsure of your location and not near any obvious landmarks 🚒

As Child Safety Week draws to a close, we’re taking the opportunity to talk safety around water. Some parents don’t realise that babies and young children can drown in as little as 5cm of water - this scary fact means we must never leave our little ones alone when in the bath (or in a paddling pool in the garden during the summer). Of the 400 people who die each year from drowning, 60% are children. Never take a chance. #childsafetyweek #familylifetoday

Day 2 It’s Child Accident Prevention Trust’s Child Safety Week! Today we’re talking about TOYS! Kids of all ages love them but they do pose a major risk in the home. If a baby or toddler is given, or gets it’s hands on, a toy unsuitable for their age they could end up swallowing or choking on a piece.
Ensure toys for your older children are stored separately and out of reach of curious little hands and always check under tables, sofas and beds to ensure there no hidden toy fr...agments. Some to particularly be aware of are: 🧸Marbles 🧸Lego 🧸Jigsaw puzzle pieces 🧸Balloons 🧸Small foam balls 🧸Toy cars (the small rubber wheels can easily come off) 🧸Coins
And for that extra peace of mind, always ensure you have up to date baby and child first aid training so you know how to help your baby or child should they choke.
