Stay safe this weekend!
But if someone does sustaind a burn, here's a picture with little reminder of what to do.
Make sure you've got some cling film to hand, and if you've got one of our lovely, spotty Mini First Aid kits, remeber that there's some burn gel in there if you need it.
... Have fun!

Love it! Anyone else's child ALWAYS pick the random things over the baby toys?

Well this is an unusual CPR story...!

Made these super tasty date and cashew snacks this evening. They do the trick when you're craving a sweet little something but are trying to get out of the habit of eating too much chocolate. The toddler seems to be enjoying them too! I don't give them to the her whole though. Always better to play it safe and cut them up.
Anybody else have ideas for tasty little snacks? Even better if they're a little bit healthy without compromising on the yum factor...!

I've been reading this BBC article this morning. I know it's not a fun thing to think about first thing on a Tuesday morning, but if you're one of the many people who's been putting it off or has just been too busy, please book an appointment for your cervical screening.
Don't put it off. The appointment doesn't take long. If you're worried about looking presentable enough 'down there' remember this - the nurse has almost certainly seen worse. Just get it done and you can for...get about it for another 3 years.
It's another thing that could save a life.

So much truth in this!

I often post about parents learning to save a life, but sometimes the tables are turned and it's the children who have to use those lifesaving skills.
CPR saves lives. That's a fact. Nowhere near enough people in the UK would feel confident enough to carry out CPR in an emergency. Also a fact.
Today is restart a heart day.
... Make sure your children learn about the importance of First Aid right from the start. THEY might save YOUR life.

We had this course at our house because Laura wanted to make sure I can attend before our baby is due in a few weeks. It was a great experience, very friendly and relaxed yet informative. We feel much more confident now. I really highly recommend you take the course if you are expecting or have a little one, it's worth the peace of mind!

User

Thankyou lovely Laura for your class today it was very easy going and informative and I came away knowing a lot more and feeling more confident. I've put the mini first aid kit I bought in my glove box. Would definately recommend xxx

User

Really great class, comprehensive info, demonstrations and time allowed for to have a go yourself (so valuable as we learn most through doing). Great answers to questions and very interactive. Well worth the money.

User

Laura delivered a highly informative session this morning jam packed with all of the information and advice that you need if you are looking after babies or children...would highly recommend

User

Laura came to my house yesterday and did a mini first aid session for my 3yr old and a group of her friends.

I cannot recommend this course enough, it was about 40 mins long which is enough for their age group and also interactive so all children were engaged with the session.

Mia has talked about Laura and her giant Teddy a lot over the past 24 hours and has remembered everything she learnt - some of which hopefully won't need to ever be used but it's reassuring to know she would be able to deal with an emergency.

Thank you

I'd highly recommend doing a first aid course with Laura. I came away from the 2 hour course feeling much more confident than before after a 2 hour session running through all the basics. It was a relaxed and friendly class with lots of chances to ask questions and to try things out on dummies ( including a baby one) and on Laura herself! We were provided with a really useful booklet and could also buy some useful items at the end. A very worthwhile 2 hours spent! Thanks.

User

I would highly recommend the Mini First Aid course which I went to a few days ago with Laura as the instructor at All Saints Church,Durham. Laura was friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgable. The course covered lots of useful information of how to deal with emergency situations such as how to carry out Cpr in babies and children, choking, burns, seizures and injuries. The course also included the chance to practice these life saving skills with provided equipment, which was really useful and helped me remember the techniques.I'd recommend this course for anyone who's a parent/family member or looks after children.

User

I went along to Gail's class with my mother in law (and 11 month old) today. We really enjoyed it and I have learnt lots of new things specific to first aid when caring for children and babies. I've regularly done first aid at work courses and so it was also good to refresh that knowledge and get some practice in! Choking in particular was covered excellently and the learning aids (specific to choking) meant you could have a go in dealing with it, which I've not seen on other courses, and will help me remember what to do. Gail is welcoming and friendly and so my nerves about keeping my little girl quiet and entertained for a 2 hour session quickly disappeared! Please take this course if you have children or look after any! xx

User

I was very impressed with this course. It provided me with just the right amount of information to cover looking after my child for the 8 minutes it would take for an ambulance to arrive. The course was very reasonably and affordably priced. I feel more assured and more prepared for an emergency. The instructor was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this course to anyone who spends any time around children, hopefully the first aid knowledge will never need to be put into action but better to be safer just in case.

I invited Laura to deliver Mini First Aid to my teenage twins and a group of their friends. Unfortunately I had to cancel my original booking but Laura was so accommodating and happily rearranged. She came at a time suitable to us and pitched the information just right for the teens to take in. She gave them a chance to practice their skills and answered all the questions they threw at her. They all enjoyed it and felt more confident afterwards. Not only did they learn valuable life skills but what a great addition to their education and future CV’s. I would definitely recommend Laura’s Mini First Aid course.

User

I have just been to this course and thought it was excellent. I have learnt so much about basic first aid and saving my children's lives. All parents should attend and anyone who looks after children! Thank you.

User

I contacted Gail a few weeks ago, I'm a childminder and feel it is very important for children to have first aid skills. She was fabulous and very helpful from the very first phone call all the way to delivering the actual lesson. She came to my setting and brought everything needed, she engaged well with the children and kept them interested throughout. I would highly recommend anyone considering similar to contact Gail and see how she can help. I've little doubt that I will be in touch again Gail to arrange another lesson. Thank you from us all!

User

I attended the mini first aid class today at lanchester garden centre. Laura was very friendly and informative. I would recommend the course to anyone. I currently do yearly cpr training with my job but felt i learned extra things on this course as it was aimed for babies and children and with a baby on the way feel more confident. Thank you Laura

User

I attended the course today along with my 6 month old daughter. I decided to take the course as I’m just starting to wean my daughter and the thought of her choking terrifies me, I wanted to take the course so I know what to do if anything should happen. I 1000% recommend that all new parents/grandparents take a course like this. It was very informative and I feel so much more confident now. Laura was brilliant she made the course very relaxed and friendly. There was plenty of opportunities to ask questions and try out the techniques on the mannequins which was really helpful.

User

I am a first time mother and began the weaning journey with my little boy. For no reason I know of i had a massive fear of him choking! This first aid course has given me more confidence in giving my son finger foods and foods with more lumps in! Obviously Gail covers a lot more than just choking and I found the entire class extremely Informative! Gail is very professional, approachable and friendly! I would 100% recommend this class to anyone who has children or who will be caring for children.

User

Fantastic session today- really pleased I attended! I have always been a bit worried what I would do if anything happened when I was minding my nephews and now feel confident I would know what actions to take if needed! Laura was lovely and put everyone at ease and gave serious information in a really friendly way! Would recommend to everyone!!
