Nobody ever regrets a workout
So proud of this lovely lady. We are working together twice a week. One session is pure strength in sets and rep ranges to promote lean muscle mass.
The second session is conditioning. We work all 3 energy systems using the air assault bike, ski erg, concept 2 rower and some good old fashioned boxing as a finisher. This lovely lady was definitely out of puff but no way out of determination. Proud PT despite the names she called me ππ π€©

This kind of training is good for a couple of reasons
1. Engine building 2. Discipline - if you're one of those like me that red lines most workouts because your ego writes cheques that your body can't cash, this is great for creating a bit of discipline within a workout whilst safely exploring what you can do without blowing up.

Losing weight is hard, but keeping weight off can be even harder.. Not if everyday is LEG DAY
When we lose weight, our Resting Metabolic Rate RMR (or how many calories we burn at rest) decreases.
... A significant indicator of our metabolic rate is our cardiac output (how much blood is delivered from our heart to the rest of our bodies). Further, our cardiac output is determined by how much blood and/or fluid is delivered back to our heart from our body (like a pump system). When we sit, blood pools in our lower legs, causing less blood to be returned back to the heartβ¦which decreases our cardiac outputβ¦which then decreases our RMR. See the cycle? This is especially prominent for individuals who have just lost a significant amount of weight and therefore have looser skin. When our skin is looser, this allows more blood to pool in the lower legs, which exacerbates this effect.
So, how can we fight this? The obvious answer would be to, of course, sit less. Furthermore, keeping our soleus muscles (also referred to as our βsecondary heartsβ) strong can make more of a difference than youβd think.
Our soleus muscles, located deep in the lower legs, have responsibilities to pump blood back up the the heart and can lead to a stronger cardiac output. Unfortunately, a sedentary lifestyle causes these muscles to weaken, lessening to fluid that is pumped back the heart on a consistent basis. This is a vicious cycle, because the more the blood pools, the lower our body temperature drops, which causes our RMR to decrease even further.
Fortunately, we have the capability to train our secondary hearts and reverse this effect. These muscles require low intensity, long duration training, which can be achieved through continuous squatting (how our ancestors used to sit before chairs), yoga, balance exercises, calf raises, and more.
When in doubt, squat more.

π CLA - Conjugated Linoleic Acid π .
Conjugated Linoleic Acid, or CLA, is a term used to refer to a mixture of fatty acids that have the general structure of linoleic acid (18 carbons in length, 2 double bonds) where the double bonds exist two carbons away from each other; they are all polyunsaturated fatty acids, and some may be trans fatty acids.
... Although many exist, only two are commonly referred to. One called c9t11 (cis-9, trans-11) and the other t10c12 (trans-10, cis-12), named after what bond occurs where on the side chain.
CLA has been investigated to be a fat burner and health promoting agent due to its effect on a molecular signalling receptor family named PPAR which is related to fat burning, steroid signalling, inflammation, and glucose/lipid metabolism.
However, human studies on CLA are very unreliable and the overall effects seen with CLA are not overly potent as well as sometimes contradicting. CLA is a good research standard to investigated fatty acids and the PPAR system, but its usage as a supplement for personal goals is quite lacklustre.
VERDICT : SAVE YOUR CASH π· CLA are fatty acids that acts on a system known as PPAR to induce fat loss. At least, that is what the theory says. CLA too weakly affects PPAR receptors to really induce fat loss in an appreciable amount. TTA appears more promising Credit: @examinedotcom
