First of all I want to say thank you for your loyalty to us. As you may have been aware, I have been working part-time at the clinic and there are some exciting changes coming up. From mid-April I am going to have the privilege of working more days and hopefully get to meet more of you. But before that happens I would like to take the time and introduce myself.
Who am I?... Lets start with a deep question. My name is Lucas. I am German, but have been living in the United Kingdom almost six years. I am a passionate athlete, but also enjoy just relaxing with a movie and pizza.
Where did I study? What kind of osteopath am I?
I studied at Oxford Brookes University and that is where I actually met Sam Cole. Then and now we had similar interests regarding treatments and approaches. To put it simply we want to identify the main issue, what caused it and what is stopping it from getting better. Then the only thing left to do is to fix those issues. Additionally I have earned certifications in sports nutrition, cognitive behavioural therapy and personal training to further improve my ability to help people.
What am I hoping to achieve at the MJB Clinic?
My main goal at the MJB Clinic is to help as many people as possible. My intention by adding qualifications is to learn new tools to help people achieve their goals. Whether it is about getting out of pain, becoming active, staying active and/or making life easier. That to me is the gift of osteopathy and I hope to share it with all of you.

So many of my patients ask me, "what core exercises should I be doing"? I plan to release a number of videos over the coming weeks to help answer this. Plus a video explaining what your core is, and the importance of it.
This exercise also know as 'the bird dog exercise' is core exercise number 1. Aim to ensure you keep a straight line throughout, raising your right arm and left leg and then vice a versa. Aim for 10/15 reps each side and then progress to holding this positio...n building up the time.

· Ice initial soft tissue injury for 24-48 hours’ post, no heat and no anti-inflammatory medication. · You need inflammation for healing so do not over ice. · Heat can be introduced no sooner than 72 hours post injury. · Heat should be used for trigger points, muscle spasm or osteoarthritic pain as long as inflammation is not present. · Ice can make muscular pain worse, commonly occurring in the lower back and neck. · A mixture of ice and heat seems to have little healing benefits, but can be a good alternative to medication for pain relief.

Don't neglect your gluteal muscles!!! To be specific I am referring to the hip abductor muscles, the gluteus medius and minimus. These two muscles are vital stabilising muscles when you walk and run, they provide a stabilising effect during the ‘stance phase’ of your gait cycle. So if weakness is present the pelvis drops on the opposite side to your stance leg when walking or running, leading to: 1. Lower back pain
2. ITB syndrome 3. Anterior knee pain or patella femoral... pain syndrome or ‘runners knee’. So try these strengthening exercises, to help with gluteal recruitment.
