What I Shoot
I photograph people and places: family portraits, urban scenes, events, landscapes and nature. I point my camera at anything that captures my imagination.
Who I Am
A committed follower of Jesus, I love discovering the beauty of HisIMG_7533 creation through a camera lens, from the widest horizons to the tiniest living things. My mission is to capture beauty and make it available to others. I seek to inspire, encourage, amaze and entertain, and above all, capture memories to treasure. If I can bless others with my images then I’ve succeeded.
I am a thirty-something photographer based in Cambridgeshire, but I love to travel the British Isles, Europe and the whole world in search of amazing things. There’s beauty and interest all around is, if we only take the time to notice it.
My Story
I’ve been taking photos ever since I was a child, but have only invested seriously in photography in the last few years. I started with film, trying to record my experiences on school trips and family holidays. I remember the excitement and apprehension of sending films off for processing, not knowing what you’d get back. None more so than during my Gap Year in 2004-5, when I took thousands of images to document my travels all around the world.
I’ve always been able to take the picture that I wanted, but have often been frustrated by a lack of the right tools. So since reaching adulthood I’ve been on a never-ending quest to find the right camera, switching to digital and progressing from compact to bridge cameras. I learned a lot using an Olympus bridge camera whilst travelling in Nepal and the Pacific, and took some amazing photos that I’m still proud of, but still the right functionality eluded me. I wasn’t satisfied until I moved up to DSLR, starting with a Canon 1100D Rebel.
Using the Rebel I’ve had to learn how to use and make the most of its huge versatility, growing in confidence in using manual settings. Alongside this great tool I’ve got to grips with increasingly sophisticated smartphone cameras. Currently using the Samsung Galaxy S6 I know I can take incredible images anywhere at any time. In the last few years I’ve gone from being a writer and traveller who takes photos to be a writer and photographer. With the right tools and a lot of input from others I’ve grown in skill and seen my images get consistently better, year after year.
I've been given great opportunities at Cambridge Community Church, where I’m part of the Photography Team. It was here that I learnt how to shoot in low-light, how to take intimate candids and how to capture the spirit of an event, be it worship, a fair or a baptism service.
Now I’m on the verge of becoming a professional, upgrading to my best gear yet and offering paid services. I’m really excited to see how God wants to use my talents and how I can bless others…

For my birthday this year I went to Bury St. Edmund's and explored the amazing abbey and gardens. It was a flawless blue-sky and these are the shots I got.

During photoshoots I sometimes have to go to great lengths and get into awkward positions to get that perfect shot. With kids it's so important to get down to their level so their natural curiosity and happiness can shine through. And, most importantly, I love to go the extra mile to make photoshoots as enjoyable and rewarding as possible for my clients. Here's what I had to do to get this shot, and here's the result. We had the pleasure of having a 2 hour photoshoot with Mike. We had so much fun. Mike was so patient with me! I am particularly shy and awkward in front of the camera, but Mike's friendly approach soon made me relax. I felt that Mike really listened to the feel my husband and I were after and was able to capture this in his photography. Mike has a great eye for beautiful pictures. To be honest I do not think you could find a better photographer! Mike was absolutely brilliant on the day of the photo shoot, we had such a fun morning and he kept coming up with fun ideas for different photos to take but it was all so relaxed and informal. My little girl loved him (and she can be picky who she takes a liking to!) and even my camera-shy husband relaxed.
However my admiration for Mike's skill climbed to a whole other level when I saw the photos. They really are the best I have ever seen, they captured so many special moments between us as a family, they practically sing with happiness. I could frame dozens of them and put them around my house, and in fact probably will! I can't wait to have Mike do some newborn photos for my next little one too...
Could not recommend more highly, they honestly don't come better than Mike.
Mike has done a great job at the newborn end six month photo shoots for our little boy. He is really flexible working with little ones and their needs and provides a really good balance of his own creative ideas and anything in particular that you have in mind. Highly recommended.
Mike did an outdoor family photoshoot for us - we wanted lots of informal shots, especially of the children. We had a fantastic time - Mike was absolutely brilliant with the kids; they were totally relaxed and had a lot of fun. We had a few slightly more 'posed' shots taken of the four of us, but the rest of the time we were hardly aware of Mike taking photos; it was just like a fun family outing and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. So many lovely images which we will treasure.

Mike did a photoshoot of our baby girl at our home. The whole experience was brilliant, from arranging the shoot to getting the photos.
Mike was sensitive to the baby's needs, in having to have breaks for feeding or a cuddle so the shoot was as relaxing as possible for everyone.
We were thrilled with getting all of the photos via a link online so it was really easy and nice to have lots of images and not just a few chosen by the photographer like old fashioned photography packages.
We would highly recommend Mike to anyone wanting photos.
