This morning we ran a gentle therapeutic modelling session at the Royal Hospital Chelsea as part of well being activities. One model truck was beautifully built from start to finish with encouragement from our sterling volunteers.

Today was the one year anniversary of the Models for Heroes modelling sessions in Northern Ireland.
Thank you to Ernie White (Secretary of Royal Naval Association in Belfast) for being so welcoming and giving us a 'home' to run the sessions, to all those who have contributed/donated to the cause, be it kits or cash, Shirley and Michael for the sandwiches and awesome cake, BFBS radio for giving us airtime again.
Thank you to the veterans that attend and contribute to the caus...e. And of course to the mighty Colin Patterson who coordinates and tirelessly advertises the sessions to the pure benefit of his brothers.
Happy Birthday.

Warfare is a fantastic 2 day tabletop Wargaming extravaganza. Lots of traders, lots of stands and tournament/demo games. Plus a very well run Bring and Buy. The theme this year is the centenary of WWI. We will be there in force, come and visit us. 17th - 18th November, Rivermead Leisure Complex, Reading. RG1 8EQ.

Meetings in the morning then instructing with this week's RRP at Tedworth House. We're building Spitfires, Harriers, Samba Busses, typhoons and lots of laughs. Then we hand delivered two large boxes for Combat Stress in Leatherhead. What a day!

Hi, I'm Malcolm, Chairman of Models for Heroes.
Whichever combination of words and sentences it takes for you to donate some pennies to us, imagine it is written here:
Every month we introduce and provide over 300 of our Armed Forces personnel with modelling activities using the help of 73 incredibly enthusiastic volunteers. These activities are changing the lives of our veteran community for the better: providing a social group, a creative skill and a rewarding hobby. Just... this month, we have opened new sessions in Somerset, Cornwall and London. Just this month Ive had requests to open another 5 more sessions early next year!
It costs around £250 to open a new session and run it for a year. £10 to send a box full of donated models. £160 to train volunteers in Mental Health First Aid. Then there's insurance, servers, fundraising signage, flyers and travel costs.
To do more, to help more, I need you all to help us. In your wallet, bank account and mattress is the money that we need to provide more sessions. We have already raised the money, you just need to donate it.

Modelling at Tedworth House again with a triumphant session with six beneficiaries. Most had built a kit before as children. The session went well and I think they'll finish their kits before the end of the week.

Today we're at CBL Hobbies in Camberley running a therapeutic modelling session. We've had a Apache, Lightning, HMS Suffolk, Eb47e and an MA31 Armoured Car being built. What a great day!

User

Yesterday we were invited to run our first therapeutic modelling session at the Royal Hospital Chelsea with the Chelsea Pensioners. Many had not built scale models since childhood and a wonderful morning was had by all. This takes our modelling session total to 36 per month across the UK.
Thank you for your donations to make this all possible

Weve just taken a new delivery of our "safety" Mugs in. You need one, they're just a £10 donation. https://www.modelsforheroes.co.uk/shop/me rchandise

Today Models for Heroes hosted a modelling group at Help for Heroes, Tedworth House. I replenished the shelves with kits and we had a good afternoon building.
There was a Russian Tractor, a Willys Jeep and we fought to seal the fuselage halves of a B17. Oh...and of course Ron's Puma. One day he'll finish it.
Then I went to visit the Salisbury Model Centre where they had some kits donated from customers and from Declan, the brilliant owner of the shop. A good day all round.

what a great set up models for heroes is i went to my first one on Sunday in Camberley which i enjoyed very much i would tell any veteran with mental health issues to try and go to one

User

Wow, what an amazing idea, I am a former service man but never saw combat. But I know many that have and organisations like yourselves are fantastic for helping with Ptsd.

User

Thanks for taking care of veterans. I'm a combat vet in the US and it helps me to build models.

User

Thank you to Malcolm for coming and spending time with us. Very therapeutic.

User

Thank you to Colin for his presentation this evening, very appropriate following on from Mental Health Awareness Week. It was very informative and great to see this new and creative approach to helping people with mental health issues. Most of the audience were healthcare professionals and were not aware of this service prior to the presentation. Hopefully they will help spread the word and more people will be able to benefit from this superb charity. Great work to all those that are involved in giving up their time to help others.. Thanks again!

Malcolm has started a fantastic movment, with Models for Heroes giving veterans the opportunity to build models. I've assisted in a number of sessions at Tedworth House, everyone gets something out of the session even the most reluctant visitor.

User

I really love this idea. I am a Veteran myself, with several health issues, and I do find that building models helps me get through rough days and helps me stay positive. One concentrates on creating something, be it a subject that has meaning, or just to be creative, and even when it's hard or not turning out quite the way one wants it to, it keeps the mind on positive thinking and creative problem solving. A great idea, and a very good way to support those who have been there and done that, without making them feel needy or greedy.

User

I own a Hobby Shop in Melbourne Australia & would love to start a support group here .

I am ex Fleet Air Arm & my two " Besties " are Ex RAF & Ex Royal Marines , also a lot of my customers are Ex Services from all around the world ....

So we had better get our heads together ....... & get on with it !

User

I love this group. I've gotten too old to model and would like to donate my kits. Is there a US version.

User

Great idea, concentrating on small details like model making is very therapeutic for conditions such as PTSD
