Throughout the year, Katie has developed as a scientist and hopes to continue her studies with a PhD after graduation.

Harindi chose to complete her 4th year project in industry, working as a Junior Scientist at molecular diagnostics company, Erba Molecular.
This experience confirmed that a career in the biotech industry is the right path for Harindi.

"The Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) scheme was a chance for me to test the waters and see how lab work would suit me, which ended up not only making me comfortable with the lab skills that I’d use in my third-year lab project, but also helped me realise that I’d like to pursue a career in molecular biology research after my degree."

"Ever since the first year of my degree, I’ve been made aware of the importance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the danger it poses to human health. For my third year project, I saw the science communication option as a great opportunity to explore this issue by my own means and, with the inclusion of science policy, create some interesting, varied work illustrating just how much we should really be worrying about this global phenomenon."

It's mental health awareness week so for this #throwbackthursday we're revisiting last September when The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Students' Union were the first organisations in the country to back a campaign led by Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Magid Magid by pledging to take positive action to promote mental wellbeing and prevent suicide.

Isobel was introduced to the Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) scheme in her hunt for experience working in a real-life lab.
During the summer, Isobel developed her analytical skills - working out what had gone wrong during an experiment and altering conditions, timings and reagents to ensure the experiment ran smoothly next time.

🍺 Harvey’s Sheffield Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) project was in collaboration with Welbeck Abbey Brewery and over six weeks, Harvey analysed their beer, exploring the characteristics of yeasts and seeing science first-hand in the real world.
