About Montgomery-House Surgery

“To provide the best possible healthcare, to enable our patients to live well”

Montgomery-House Surgery Description

Our aim is:

“To provide the best possible healthcare, to enable our patients to live well”

Our Practice team of 40 staff includes 11 GPs, 3 GP Registrars, 5 Practice Nurses and 4 Health Care Assistants.

Currently we have 14, 000 patients.

Whilst all patients have a named doctor, you are able to see any doctor in the practice you choose; although for continuity of care, especially if you have an ongoing conditions, we would highly recommend that you see the same doctor.

Where appropriate, you are also also encouraged to book appointments with the Practice Nurses or Health Care Assistants directly for specialist nursing services e. g. travel immunisations, NHS Health Checks, Blood tests etc.

Patients that do not live near to a community pharmacy can be dispensed to directly from our dispensary.

In addition to our normal hours, we have additional appointments Tuesday and Thursday evenings (and the occasional Friday evening). There are also appointments on Saturday and Sunday mornings available, which can be booked from the Friday before.

I HAVE FLU - WHAT SHOULD I DO? You can often treat the flu without seeing your GP and should begin to feel better in about a week. Your Community Pharmacist can help if concerned.
Flu symptoms come on very quickly and can include:
... a sudden fever – a temperature of 38C or above aching body feeling tired or exhausted dry, chesty cough sore throat headache difficulty sleeping loss of appetite diarrhoea or tummy pain nausea and being sick The symptoms are similar for children, but they can also get pain in their ear and appear less active.
HOW TO TREAT FLU YOURSELF:
To help you get better more quickly:
rest and sleep keep warm take paracetamol or ibuprofen to lower your temperature and treat aches and pains drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration (your pee should be light yellow or clear)
YOUR COMMUNITY PHARMACIST CAN HELP WITH FLU
A pharmacist can give treatment advice and recommend flu remedies.
Be careful not to use flu remedies if you're taking paracetamol and ibuprofen tablets as it's easy to take more than the recommended dose.
Speak to a pharmacist before giving medicines to children.
CALL NHS111 OR CONTACT YOUR GP IF:
you're worried about your baby's or child's symptoms you're 65 or over you're pregnant you have a long-term medical condition – for example, diabetes or a heart, lung, kidney or neurological disease you have a weakened immune system – for example, because of chemotherapy or HIV your symptoms don't improve after 7 days
ANTIBIOTICS
GPs don't recommend antibiotics for flu because they won't relieve your symptoms or speed up your recovery.
CALL 999 OR GO TO A&E IF YOU:
develop sudden chest pain have difficulty breathing start coughing up blood

FLU CLINICS
Our next Walk-in ADULTS ONLY Flu Clinic is Saturday 3 November (8.30-12.00) - no need to book.
This is for those who will be 65 yrs and over on 31 March 2019 - These will receive the FLUAD vaccination, designed specifically for this age group. And those 18-64 yrs who are in the "at risk groups", plus carers.
... We currently have bookable in-day appointments being run for 18-64s, and from 5 November for 65 yrs & over (when we will have received our next delivery of the FLUAD vaccine). Please book into these and NOT with your usual GP unless you have an appointment for another reason, and we'll aim to do it at the same visit.
It is important that those 65 yrs & over wait to receive the FLUAD Flu vaccination, as this vaccine is much more effective for this age group than the normal one due to differences with their immune system. Don't worry, this is still plenty of time before the flu season starts, but you should aim to be vaccinated by the end of November.
CHILD (u18) FLU VACCINATION CLINICS: Invites are currently being sent out for those eligible for this in batches (All pre-school children aged 2 and 3 on 31 Aug 18, and those "at risk groups" u18 and aged 6mths - 2 yrs). These are bookable appointments through our Patient Services This vaccination is administered as a nasal spray, unless the child is unable to have this type of vaccine, when the normal injectable version is used.
Please note that the Practice is unable to vaccinate children that are part of the School Flu Vaccination programme, unless the child is in an "at risk group".

We've had a fairly turbulent time since the birth of our baby 13 weeks ago, who had meningitis at 3 days old. During this period my experience of Montgomery House Practice has been wonderful. We have always been seen quickly, and with such thorough care every single time. We have been seen by Dr Frankland, Dr Harman, and Dr Mowbray. Each time I am always put at ease by their attention to detail. A massive thank you during the most stressful time we have ever experienced. :-)

User

Moved surgeries recently after mine closed & I have been v. happy with the service provided each and every time.

Long opening times, evening appointment & best of all a Dr ringing you when you are on the triage list!

User

I’ve only been with the surgery for a short while and 2 appts but have been given excellent service both times from reception, Dr’s and nurses alike. Such short waiting times for appts too!

User

Great surgery. Helpful staff. You could do with more evening appointments though. Trying to see the same GP for continuity of care is often difficult when you can only attend in the evening.
