Don’t just accept arthritis as an inevitable part of your dog getting older. There is lots you can do to lessen the impact on your dogs quality of life. If your dog is slowing down or showing signs of discomfort, talk to your vet and then get in touch to see how we can work together to support your dog.

Really looking forward to meeting lots of lovely dog owners at the Eyam Makers Christmas Market next weekend. I will be attending both days, talking to owners about Galen Canine Myotherapy treatment and how it can be of benefit to their dog’s overall health.
Galen Canine Myotherapy can be highly effective in supporting a dog’s performance, well-being and recovery throughout all of their life’s stages - from improving or maintain performance in sporting and working dogs, to po...st-op recuperation, musculoskeletal issues such as osteoarthritis and hip-dysplasia, lameness and injury.
So if you're out walking in the Peak District next weekend, or coming over specially for this fabulous event and would like to find out more or would like to discuss any concerns you have over your dog's health, please come over and say hello :)
For more information on the makers market and other talented local stallholders, check out the events page.https://www.facebook.com/events/3461 39939453724/

No-one seems to have a definitive cause for our dogs developing corns, however, research still seems to be leaning towards a structural issue, leading to an adaptive gait. If a dog has an injury or underlying weakness, they will adapt how they walk to compensate. This may be so slight that we don't even notice. It seems likely that the corn develops over time in response to, amongst other factors, differences in loading or weight-bearing as a result of these structural/mechan...ical changes.
When considering hulling, once the corn is gone, unless physical therapy is undertaken to bring about change and work towards regaining the dog's natural balance, the corn is likely to reappear - sadly often quite quickly.
It is disappointing that something so simple yet insidiously damaging to a greyhounds quality of life is overlooked in many cases in favour of expensive and traumatic screening and amputation before other avenues have been explored. Thanks to The Greyhound Health Initiative for their continued research we may one day find a cure.

This should be a fantastic event exploring management strategies for owners of dogs suffering from osteoarthritis. Hosted by Nicky Wreford and joined by Canine Arthritis Management’s Hannah Capon it will focus on practical strategies to help you understand the disease and support your dog.

A properly fitting harness is essential to your dogs mucualr health. A shortened stride will cause an adaptive gait and over time, lead to a shortening of the affected muscle fibres and a range of compensatory issues. Please make sure that your dogs harness allows for full shoulder movement and complete extension of the legs - if you need any advice, just shout:)
