Mother Nurture Pilates Description

Thursdays 10-11am (term time) at The Studio, 3 Boss Avenue, Leighton Buzzard LU7 4SD.

Bring your baby!

Jo appreciates that as a mother there is little 'me' time to be had, so has devised the classes such that you can care for your little one whilst taking some time for you too. Playmats and sensory toys will be provided for the babies' entertainment but bring your own blanket or car seat for your baby if you prefer.

There is a nappy changing unit for you to use and a place to feed your baby too. Tend to your baby during the class as and when you need to.

Enjoy a hot drink and some yummy homemade cakes in The Studio cafe before or after your class with the other mums and babies.

Safety

These classes are suitable for ladies 6 weeks after a straightforward vaginal delivery or 8 weeks after a Caesarian or instrumental delivery, to allow for tissue healing and until such time that your baby is mobile.

All ladies will be required to complete a health questionnaire prior to participation in the classes, so Jo can understand the nature of any specific problems you may have.

The majority of the class will be undertaken on mats on the floor, if you have difficulty getting on and off the floor this class may not be suitable but do speak to Jo if you are unsure. It is preferable to be bare foot during the sessions due to the floor surface, or you could wear non-slip Pilates /yoga socks

Format

Each class will run for one hour. It will begin with a light warm up in standing which will 'wake up' the muscles we will target in the class. The bulk of the exercises will then take place lying on your back, side, or perhaps in sitting or kneeling. You should NEVER experience pain during the exercises - this should be reported to Jo so she can adapt the exercise to suit you better. Perhaps it is too difficult or being performed incorrectly. Jo will look at your technique and adjust it accordingly, so you can be sure you are in safe hands. There will be a strong emphasis on recovering pelvic floor strength by incorporating this into the exercise program. You won't feel particularly out of breath with these exercises but you will certainly feel the effort, and know you have taken part afterwards!

Class numbers are kept small to a maximum of 10 so Jo can give each lady individual attention. She will move round the room and help to ensure you are performing each exercise correctly in order to get the most from it. You can work at your own pace, taking a break when you need to. Feed and change your baby whenever you want to.

Equipment will be used during the class to progress the exercises and add variety to the workouts. Ladies will usually work at different levels according to ability - it is easy for Jo to modify an exercise to make it harder /easier to meet an individuals' needs.

The class will end with a few stretches to help relax areas we have worked on and loosen areas prone to becoming tight or stiff whilst pregnant.

If you want to continue working on your Pilates exercises at home, Jo can supply written copies of most exercises by email to you.

What to bring /wear

Wear loose comfortable clothes that you can move and stretch freely in. You may prefer to bring a small towel and some water but all equipment will be provided including mats. Please feel free to use your own if you wish.

Soft mats will be provided for your baby beside your mat but you may like to bring a blanket in addition. A large play mat and a selection of toys will also be available for the babies too.
