◾️Hip pain◾️
We’ve been treating Victoria for a hip pain issue for the past few months.
The main aim has been to correct her faulty mechanics, improving mobility and muscular control around the hip and trunk.
... So after weeks of slowly building strength around the hip with graded rehab we’re now using the Anderson squat here to give her the strength she needs to push out of the bottom of a squat. A good way to get some load through the joint while working in good positions 👍🏻💪🏻

After a MASSIVE Christmas break it’s back to it! Here’s James 3 months after having surgery to repair his torn pec with The Arm Clinic We’re steadily progressing his overhead stability and strength. Working on both post op weakness and old biomechanical issues around the hip and shoulder girdle. Big boy weights soon💪🏻😃

◾️Early Post-op Rehab◾️
30 second facebook vids make rehab look like a lot of fun. It’s all kettlebells, banded good mornings and quirky movements.
Actually, rehab is usually pretty hard work, takes a lot of commitment and can be a tad tedious at times. Mainly because people want to do the exciting stuff before they earn the right by doing the basics first.
... Here’s Dan at 10 days from an Anterior Shoulder Stabilisation. It’s a significant procedure and requires expert guidance in the rehab phase to promote optimum healing alongside optimum strength and control gains.
So on we go with slow, deliberate, careful movements aiming to reduce pain, increase range and improve control and proprioception. Another 4-6 weeks and we’ll be able to do some big boy weights again without his shoulder falling off😃💪🏻
Yes he’s wearing his coat to rehab indoors...don’t judge if you’ve never been to Train Manchester in December🤷🏼‍♂️

◾️Rehab◾️
It’s rare that there’s an issue we encounter in the clinic that arises without faulty movement patterns. Even traumatic injuries will have an element of movement dysfunction associated with them.
The key to effectively treating most if not all musculoskeletal injuries and dysfunctions is to teach people to move well.
... Manual therapy, taping, acupuncture and all these various treatment modalities have their place but if you’re not moving well and lack control and stability the potential is that you’ll remain a bit of a broken biscuit 🍪 😬
Enjoy the process of getting stronger, improving your function, reducing pain and enhancing your performance whether that’s picking up the kids out of the back seat of the car or deadlifting double your body weight. It’s one thing to treat pain, it’s another thing altogether to rehab a person back to full function and performance.
We’ve been working hard with Will to treat his mechanical neck pain over the past few weeks. Now that symptoms have settled to a large degree we’re focusing on specific strength and control work, adding in graded functional rehab to mimic his usual training. The vid shows some muscle snatching, a useful way to develop strength and movement ...for the snatch with having excess load and dynamic movement 👍🏻💪🏻

◾️Pec. Tear Repair◾️
First part of the vid is the before, 2 months on from initial injury. Performing a bar muscle up when the patient felt a pop and immediate pain in to the pec. After being misdiagnosed several times he spent the next few weeks scaling his training and not really knowing what to do.
The next portion of the vid is eight weeks post op. Following accurate diagnosis, referral to The Arm Clinic and excellent surgical repair, Jamie is progressively loading week... on week. Working on strength and control under our expert guidance.
Even starting to lift big boy weights again...with some very strict boundaries 🧐

▪️Rotation Control▪️
This reverse lunge variant is a useful way of stimulating some rotational trunk and pelvis control. Rotation control is crucial to good movement mechanics but is often lacking in sports that primarily move in the sagittal plane like weightlifting, power lifting and often in Crossfit.
... Here we’re using it to help with a lower limb issue along with some acupuncture and Rocktape UK to initiate some mechanical stimulus of the nervous system 👍🏻

End stage rehab for Victoria and her shoulder girdle issue.
After some steady strength and control progressions over the last few weeks here we’re working on a couple of things:
1. Combining shoulder girdle and hip stability with the reverse lunge and bottom up kettlebell press
... 2. Serratus Anterior strengthening with a banded scapula punch and a scapula push up on dumbbells. The Serratus Anterior is a really important muscle in terms of achieving good shoulder girdle position and control.

Few bits we’ve been using to treat a mechanical back pain issue that was particularly sensitive to bending moments.
▪️Modified couch stretch using Stick Mobility Great way to mobilise the hip flexors whilst achieving co-contraction in the trunk to stabilise. .... ▪️Barbell Good Mornings to stimulate the posterior chain, particularly the glutes and provide some stability in to flexion movements. . ▪️ Rocktape UK to provide a mechanical stimulus to the nervous system helping to reduce pain and improve movement quality 👍🏻 💪🏻

◾️Sort your pelvis out◾️
Victor is a BIG UNIT. Former national rower for Poland so he’s no stranger to training. However, shoulder pain has been interfering with his training recently and it all comes down to the fact that whilst he can manage to throw about some seriously heavy weight, isolate his trunk and pelvis to work and he’s all over the place!!! You can be a big unit and lack stability and control. You can also have painful shoulders which lack stability because you ...have sloppy hips!
Anyway, once he’s finished his rehab cycle expect to see him strict pressing buses 🚌

◾️Doing The Basics◾️
Kate has been struggling with shoulder girdle pain after ramping up her pull up numbers. On examination we found a number of weaknesses and restrictions that caused poor movement patterns and overload of the shoulder. ▪️Positional Control▪️
Working with Ashleigh on the final stages of her shoulder rehab. This had been a long standing issue, all down to poor quality movement patterns around her hip and shoulder girdle. The last issue is some mild discomfort in the bottom of her catch position when performing a snatch. Here we’re using the Crossover Symmetry to facilitate shoulder girdle control while she mimics an overhead squat, prepping the structures for this movement with irritating the shoulder 👍🏻👌🏻💪🏻😃
