CMH provides practical, medical and emotional support to over 3000 people every year with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in Southampton and South Central Hampshire. This support is not only given to the patients but also their carers and families throughout illness and bereavement.

Build 'n' Banter is our weekly support group for male patients in which they're set the challenge of working together to build Lego creations. We always know when the group are together as it always involves a lot of chatter and laughter!
The group are always looking for new sets to build and have put together a wish list Link: http://amzn.eu/hwI7ZWa Do any of our wonderful supporters have one of these sets that they no longer need that they would be willing to donate to the group? If so we would be really grateful. Thank you

Join us at our Summer Fete for an afternoon of family fun in the grounds of Chilworth Manor Hotel. There will be live music, stalls, traditional games, Pimms Tent, BBQ, Dog Show and much more! Free entry and parking.

A lovely story to start the week. On Friday we had the pleasure of meeting 11 year old Liam who raised an amazing £117.56 in memory of his Grandad. He raised the money by having a stall at the Hedge End Carnival, running a Tombola with prizes he sourced himself from Car Boot Sales. What an absolute star! Here he is pictured with his proud Nan and a friend from school.

User

It was lovely to meet Lindsay from Coffin Mew yesterday. Lindsay is a Solicitor in Coffin Mew's Wills, Trusts and Probate team and supported us in our recent Make a Will Fortnight by providing her time and expertise for free in return for our supporters making a donation to the Charity when having a Will written. As part of this initiative they have so far helped raise an amazing £1250 to support the care provided at the Hospice!

User

Thank you to everyone who braved the heat on Sunday and attended our Sunflower Memories Event. This was the first time we have held this event and it was fantastic to see so many people there. Thank you also to everyone who dedicated a sunflower. There was over 550 on display! These will continue to be on display in the Hospice gardens until 31st July, after which they can be collected.
We also wish to thank corporate supporters for helping with this event: A H Rogers & Sons for volunteering, Co-operative, CO-OP Welcome, Frobisher House - Parkview Retail for generously donated Pimm's, lemonade and cakes for the event, Eastleigh College for making the delicious scones, Absolute Cake for the beautiful Memory Box cake and Cake Workshop for the cupcakes.

Wanted to say just how comforted I am by my experience at CMH. My fiance sadly lost his battle with cancer 27.9.17.... He had suffered so so much at home and when rushed to southampton general hospital it was a scary and unsettling time. To be transferred to CMH was amazing and the staff there were A1 first class. Took care of me in the most loving way when I could no longer keep it together. They made my fiance so comfortable and treated him with such love and respect. I hadn't seen him so comfortable in such a long time... Light up a life ceremony in the CMH grounds last night was beautiful. Thankyou to all involved. Asked funeral donations to go to CMH and raised over £300 and my sister and brother in law raised £500 from a garden party. I will always support CMH for the wonderful work they do.

User

This place is utterly incredible and irreplaceable! The staff are so supportive and work so hard, takes a very strong and lovely person to work here! I will never stop supporting this hospice. You are doing an incredible job :) so thankful for the hard work they have done to keep someone very close to me comfortable throughout such a hard time!! RIP xxxxxx ❤️

Our dad Francis Bradley received wonderful end of life care at Countess Mountbatten and we will always be grateful for everything you did for him and for looking after us too.

User

Our Dad was here over Christmas in 2015. The staff and volunteers went out of their way to ensure that Christmas was special despite the difficult circumstances especially for the grandchildren when we visited. The handmade personalised gift was particularly lovely. The top quality care he received improved his health hugely and the social care staff helped us enormously in getting him moved onto a nursing home where he had a really good quality of life for his last months. We cannot thank you enough.

User

My mum spent her last four days in CMH and I already knew what an amazing place it was as I am the fundraiser for the charity. But cannot begin to describe how incredible the staff were to both my mum and my family, it made such a difference to know how she was looked after. A special thanks to Andrew, who even did her make up and hair. Thank you for taking care of mum and for all your kindness.

User

My mum passed away here Oct 2011. She had been diagnosed 7 months before and spent her last 6 weeks here. I cannot say enough about the staff here. They were fantastic. They allowed my sister and I to virtually live there. We were allowed to bath and wash her and do things for her to keep her dignity. Nothing was too much trouble for them from her bailey's every day to her needing painkillers at short notice. The doctor kept us up to date all the time. And when the time came I was allowed to stay with her until the funeral people came to collect her. Wonderful people who are probably hugely underpaid.

User

My mother spent her last 2 weeks in th CMB the staff were so caring, respectful and couldn't do enough to ensure mum was comfortable and I was also given respect and as much time with her as I required. They even let me stay with her for her last few

Days giving me a room next to her so I could be with her for her last breath. I have so much praise and this special place will

Always be a special place in my heart.

User

My mother in law spent her last few weeks at CMB . Could not fault the staff everyone was amazing . The endless teas I made for the family were gratefully received fantastic people , nothing too much trouble .

My husband was cared for very lovingly by the staff and I will always be grateful

My Mum spent the last 4 days of her life here after being transferrred from Southampton General Hospital and what a difference, the dignity and family support we received were outstanding. Mum was really cared for and we were keep updated on what to expect at each stage although my Mum surprised them along the way. They even let 4 family members stay for 2 nights. Donna gave us some amazing advice in Mums last hours. My Mum passed away there in a beautiful room, full of her favourite yellow roses organised by the charity and provided my M&S, clean and comfortable with her family members by her side, a truly beautiful way to pass. Xx

My Dad (George Haynes) spent his last 2 weeks in CMH In Feb 2007. He passed away 22nd the day before my birthday! He said he felt very safe & comfortable there. He could have anything he wanted & needed & the staff were so caring & lovely. As a family we appreciated everything that the hospice & staff did for my dad to make his last weeks & especially his last day & night, which was quite traumatic, so comfortable & the advice & support they gave especially to me at a time when my brother (Kevin Haynes) was also fighting a battle with terminal cancer (passed away at CMH 22/7/09) & my Mum had Alzheimer's. Special thanks to Binny & Dawn palliative care nurses who looked after my Dad & my Brother at home & in the hospice & Consultant Dr Butler. Also special thanks to the volunteer drivers who took mum in every day to see Dad, despite her advanced Alzheimer's & misplacing her keys & handbag many times... your understanding, care & patience was invaluable which took a great strain off me during the week whilst working & trying to juggle everything. Fantastic work you do & keep spirits up. Many of the staff who looked after my Dad & Bruv were still there when I worked voluntarily on Meet & Greet 2013-2016 & recognised me straight away which was nice. You were like our extended family & I know that patients & their relatives today feel the same. Many, many thanks for everything you do & give to those in your care & their family's xxxx

User

I was struck by the unending levels of commitment and human compassion shown by everyone you met at CMH. It was a blessing to all our family to trust in this compassion for human life, as our dearest Fatima went peacefully to heaven.

User

I cannot put into words my heartfelt thanks for all the staff and volunteers tonight we lost our father in law he was with you for 15 days and the care and compassion that everyone has shown us in those days was just amazing you all deserve so much more than you get your truly amazing people thank you for treating him with such dignity xxx

User

Fantastic place, deal with the patient and yhe family in the most proffessional caring way

User

Dad went into CMH in November 2014 and spent the last 2 weeks of his life there. The staff were unbelievable. Compassionate, friendly, caring to both my Dad and the family. Dad was very well looked after and we could not have been supported any more than we were. The only disappointment we had was in the outside care, before Dad entered CMH. Both with getting the things we needed and in the support we were promised. Thank you again to the CMH nurses and volunteers. We will never forget your kindness.

User

Countess Mountbatten were amazing to my Grandad in the week before he passed away. They were a great support to us as a family as well. Inspirational people x
