Movement Intellect is about celebrating movement. It's about nourishing the body and mind connection. During Pilates classes we'll focus on moving your body in a skilful and functional way that will help improve mobility and strength where you need it most in your daily life. We feel strongly about the fact that mindful movement is a form of meditation. If you join for a specific meditation session the focus is on guiding you through your own experience.

I’m often asked what the 1 exercise is I would recommend for a back that feels ‘tight’, first thing in the morning type exercise,...my answer...CAT! . Some tips: 👣 Segmental spinal movement ~ if you had a tail it would be curling in between your legs, then flex segmentally through the spine, the head being the last bit to curl in, try to move in the ‘tight’ areas more. Aim for an even, long C shape in the Cat. .... Want more? As per this clip add in, 🤸‍♀️Angry cat, curl into a cat, as above, shift back, centre the pelvis and spine, shift forward. 🤸‍♀️Add in the side stretch, place one hand in front of the other, curl into a cat and lean slightly away from the hands, sense the opposition, this creates a glorious stretch to the side and back of the waist...hold for 3 deep breaths. . You should never feel a sudden or sharp pain during a Pilates exercise, if you do, STOP, seek a movement professional to work with in person. . . . #backhealth #pilates #pilatesforbackpain #spinemobility #pilateshasyourback

Strength exercise of the week- this sequence is guaranteed to set the abductors and hip extensors on 🔥 . Use a strong loop, or elastic band doubled up and tied around the legs, just above the knee joints. Keep tension in the band the whole time. . Enough reps to feel the burn.... . Sitting at a desk and looking down at a screen can cause a lot of tension in the neck. I love this simple yet effective exercise from the Slings in Motion 1 course. Some benefits: 🤸‍♀️lengthening, strengthening the deep neck mucles. 🤸‍♀️gently mobilising the joints of the head and neck. 🤸‍♀️melting away tension and light adhesions. 🤸‍♀️very calming for the nervous system.... . . Tips: 💫use a soft massage ball, relax your head into it. 💫place the ball at the base of the occipital ridge, not your neck. 💫the eyes and deep neck muscles are closely linked, therefore relax/close the eyes. . . ***Last couple of spaces available on my Pilates and Slings Masterclass tomorrow for some more of this! Part 2 of 2: Following on from part 1~ 🤸‍♀️Bouncing cat~lengthening the back of the body, strengthening the front. The centre is strongly engaged, the spine in elongated flexion. Flick with the hands into the floor to bounce back rhythmically. 🤸‍♀️kneeling tripple extension~opening the front of the body, promoting length across the front of the hip joint all the way up to the neck, strengthening the back of the body(spine extensors in particular). The movement during tripple ...extention is created simply by the in- and outbreath. 🤸‍♀️sit back & curl up~a lovely exercise, interplay between the myofascia of the front and back of the body, promoting strength(all round) and improving glide(specifically between rectus femoris and rectus abdominis)...but above all for the pure JOY of it! . .
