Has anyone got a black 17 or 17.5” GP or jump saddle MW or W that they are selling? I have a client looking for me to fit one. Many thanks Michelle

SOMETHING to try......... This is for any age, level, discipline, instructor or body worker. Can you or your client stand up out of their stirrups and balance independently without falling back or forwards? Can they gradually sit down with no assistance from rein contact, or leaning on the neck? This isn’t necessarily your fault, but your horse is compensating for balancing you whilst you are unable to self balance. ... IF YOU CAN’T do this please have your saddle balance assessed. Maybe you require longer stirrup bars to cope with your length of thigh. These pictures show a mixture of levels, but can’t get out of a ‘chair seat’ and hence have a mobile lower leg and are out of balance. Non of us are perfect, but surely we want our saddles to be good enough to fit well to both the horse and rider.

Saddles with narrow gullets often give the rider no obvious reason to worry as they often don’t move, making the rider feel secure. These saddles actually almost slit into the spine and this is why they appear stable. I love working with vets, chiropractors and other body workers as between us we can stop reoccurring patterns of discomfort and tension. If we work together with our knowledge you are more likely to have a happy performing horse that ultimately costs less in vets bills 🤞 Dorso Equino often ask me to look at horses that have had reoccurring problems and the satisfaction of then seeing these horses improve is amazing for all of us involved. This is a long but great read. This is what I see so often in my job as either equine Ergonomist (saddle fit assessments) and in my Straightening / symmetry correction work. Many would look at a skinny animal post and get cross at the cruelty and neglect, but people ignoring these things in their horses back through fear of needing a new /different saddle, I’m afraid are as bad. Your horse will seldom complain, but it’s our responsibility to know.

Straightness Straightness Straightness
The winter is an ideal time to look at whether your horse can actually master the basic things correctly, in order to achieve what’s required of him/her. I have the pleasure of working with this super chap and his owner. This horse is an advanced/ medium horse, currently working at elementary. Stripping things back we can see that standing square is not a natural or easy thing for this boy. I have started a program of my symmetry corr...ection work now that he has undergone some release work, as he’s a very right bended horse, finding work to the left difficult. These are pictures of him at halt when I started my session, and the last one is after my Straightening lunge and posture work. Small changes can bring big results....... especially for this chap in his dressage.

I thought this would be good to share as not only does it remind us that a horse naturally is a down hill on the forehand creature, but that with the downward weight and pressure of a rider ...... Without correct ground work and training this frame works in tension. We then use more gadgets or pressure to try and create a short lived false outline. Learn more about symmetry correction (Straightening) work, it will pay dividends

Less is definitely more. A mouth open, heavy in the hand, are often short cut training issues. Correct Ground work can make a huge difference, as can building our own core strength so that a horses head and mouth isn’t supporting our lack of self balance.

So great to be mentioned and appreciated this way. Having your work valued and recognised is so important. Seeing results through clients being dedicated to their horses is very rewarding. Sometimes the smallest changes produce the greatest improvements.

It is such a compliment to get such great referrals all the way over in spain from this talented chiropractic vet, Jose, and his lovely equine sports massage wife, Joanna. What a team!
