Dear friends, a much overdue update: due to the recent change in my personal circumstances, I've taken the decision not to re-open the Tea House. Thank you so much to all our customers over the past 4 years, and I hope to see you around town down the line!
I'll be around tomorrow afternoon and Tuesday afternoon tidying up the cafe, so please do pop in for one last pot of tea! Thank you very much to Trudi and Justine at The Hide for all their help and support, both recently and during all our time working together, and to all the artists and organisations who we've hosted and worked with - it's been a real pleasure.
I'd love to stay in touch, and this page will continue to exist, so please do feel free to message for more info. Thank you very much again, for your custom and understanding. ❤️

Dear friends, due to a sudden family bereavement, the Tea House will be closed for a period. Thank you for your understanding at this time - we'll keep you posted, and see you soon.

We'll be closing at 3pm today for a private event, but don't forget about our very special Gong Fu Tea Ceremony tomorrow! Join us at 2pm for MayKing Tea's demonstration of Chinese tea making and sharing of her extensive knowledge of tea and tea culture! We'll be trying six different teas that we serve here at the Tea House, along with some homemade cakes too. Hope you can make it!

Reposting MayKing Tea's evocative words ahead of our event together this Saturday!
Chinese Gong Fu Tea Ceremony is an artform. It is a performance that invites participants to watch, to learn, to take part and be made aware of all of their senses as they see the performer go through a ritual of making tea.
In Western Society, we have lost that artform. Gone are the days where we used to warm the teapot, add loose leaf tea, one teaspoon per person and one for the pot, and add ...freshly boiled water. Our Australian counterparts would swirl the tea with a teaspoon three times one way, three times the other.
Gone are the days we would add milk to a milk jug; add sugar cubes to a bowl (one lump or two?); and gone are the days where our gran or mam would bring the teapot and accompaniments on a tray with biscuits or slices of cake which we would share around the table with our family and friends. Gone are the days we would take time to chat and natter around afternoon teatime. Gone are the days we would take time out of our busy days to stop for a cuppa.
Mugen Tea House and MayKing Tea invite you to take time for yourself again. Saturday 13th October 2-4pm, we will be trying six amazing teas from around the world. Not mug fulls so don’t worry. Pinkie in the air is not required either, but what is required is all of your questions about tea. Bring them along and I’ll duly oblige.
